DISCUSSION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEEP SEISMIC REFLECTION PATTERNS AND TECTONIC UNITS OF THE EASTERN PART OF THE CENTRAL ASIAN OROGENIC BELT IN …
2017
Division of tectonic units in the eastern part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt in northeast China has been a major concern and resulted in much fieldwork, but the division of these tectonic units in NE China is still controversial. Although detection of tectonic units in seismic sections is not straightforward, for this meeting, we shall try to relate tectonic units with the crustal and upper mantle structure and deformation derived from a ~2500 km long reflection seismic profile (Figure, red lines) in this area, recently acquired or reprocessed with support of China Geological Survey and the Chinese SinoProbe Project.
Successes and failures in geodynamics
2001
Abstract The evolution of Earth models is reviewed and the open questions and problems are highlighted. Generally, evolution of science was not linear, but proceeded in “steps” of paradigms; where old ones remained within useful limits. “Geodynamic hypotheses”, while embedded into the general concepts of space and time, were often mutually exclusive and competing until the 1900s. Wegener's concept of continental drift was the first successful globally unifying view, but it was discarded by most Earth scientists. The “real” change of paradigms did not come before mid-century through geophysical observations in paleomagnetism, seismology, bathymetry, seafloor geology and dating, leading to th…
Geochemistry, PbPb single zircon ages and NdSr isotope composition of Precambrian rocks from southern and eastern Ethiopia: implications for crusta…
1998
Abstract Geochemical and isotope data for granitoid rocks from southern and eastern Ethiopia delineate the presumed margin of the Pan-African juvenile terrain of the Arabian-Nubian Shield against an older crustal segment of unknown origin extending from eastern Ethiopia to northern Somalia. Granitoids from southern Ethiopia have higher Na2O and Na 2 0 K 2 O and lower Cr and Ni than granitoids with comparable SiO2 values from eastern Ethiopia. In southern Ethiopia three periods of magmatism are identified on the basis on single zircon 207 Pb 206 Pb evaporation ages, namely at ∼850, ∼750-700 and ∼650-550 Ma, and these correlate well with events documented from other parts of Ethiopia and the …
Sedimentary dynamics and extensional structuring related to early Cretaceous rifting of Neocomian and Barremian deposits of the interior basin of Gab…
2008
18 pages; International audience; Recent field and subsurface data about the early Neocomian N'dombo series and the Neocomian to mid-Barremian Schistes series of the interior basin of Gabon further our understanding of the initial stages of early Cretaceous N40–60E extensional rifting. The syn-rift series comprise fluvial–lacustrine claystones–sandstones, rare conglomerates, and carbonates. The syn-rift fill begins with braided-stream feldspathic sandstones. These are overlain first by fluvial–lacustrine deposits and then by predominantly lacustrine–palustrine claystones, which are potential petroleum source rocks. The claystones are eroded in part and are capped by the pre-Aptian angular u…
Efficient extraction and preparative separation of four main isoflavonoids from Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen leaves by deep eutectic solvents-based ne…
2016
In this study, green and efficient deep eutectic solvent-based negative pressure cavitation-assisted extraction (DES-NPCE) followed by macroporous resin column chromatography was developed to extract and separate four main isoflavonoids, i.e. prunetin, tectorigenin, genistein and biochanin A from Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen leaves. The extraction procedure was optimized systematically by single-factor experiments and a Box-Behnken experimental design combined with response surface methodology. The maximum extraction yields of prunetin, tectorigenin, genistein and biochanin A reached 1.204, 1.057, 0.911 and 2.448mg/g dry weight, respectively. Moreover, the direct enrichment and separation of…
Monitoring 10-m LST from the Combination MODIS/Sentinel-2, Validation in a High Contrast Semi-Arid Agroecosystem
2020
Downscaling techniques offer a solution to the lack of high-resolution satellite Thermal InfraRed (TIR) data and can bridge the gap until operational TIR missions accomplishing spatio-temporal requirements are available. These techniques are generally based on the Visible Near InfraRed (VNIR)-TIR variable relations at a coarse spatial resolution, and the assumption that the relationship between spectral bands is independent of the spatial resolution. In this work, we adopted a previous downscaling method and introduced some adjustments to the original formulation to improve the model performance. Maps of Land Surface Temperature (LST) with 10-m spatial resolution were obtained as output fro…
Deciphering the DNAzyme activity of multimeric quadruplexes: insights into their actual role in the telomerase activity evaluation assay.
2011
The end of human telomeres is comprised of a long G-rich single-stranded DNA (known as 3'-overhang) able to adopt an unusual three-dimensional "beads-on-the-string" organization made of consecutively stacked G-quadruplex units (so-called quadruplex multimers). It has been widely demonstrated that, upon interaction with hemin, discrete quadruplexes acquire peroxidase-mimicking properties, oxidizing several organic probes in H(2)O(2)-rich conditions; this property, known as DNAzyme, has found tens of applications in the last two decades. However, little is known about the DNAzyme activity of multimeric quadruplexes; this is an important question to address, especially in light of recent repor…
The infrared thermography control of the laser welding of amorphous polymers
2008
In laser welding technique, a real-time control of temperature distribution inside the irradiated materials is essential when attempting to optimize the process. For all laser welding methods that operate by the transmission principle, the difficulty of recording the developed temperature at the interface derives from the fact that materials to be welded are in contact throughout the entire process. In the present study, in order to overcome this issue, a contact-free method such the infrared thermography is used for surface temperature measurement. Corroborating this data with a numerical simulation of the temperature field evolution inside the components, an assessment of optimal process …
Sentinel 2 and 3 for Temperature Monitoring Over the Amazon
2018
In this work we present results of an early assessment of the performance of the Land Surface Temperature (LST) product retrieved from the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) on board the Sentinel-3 satellite (S3/SLSTR) over the Amazon basin. Results are validated from comparison of S3/SLSTR retrievals against in situ measurements of surface temperature collected over one instrumented site in the Peruvian Amazon. The validation exercise was performed on the standard S3/SLSTR Level-2 LST product as well as on a dedicated LST split-window algorithm with an explicit dependence on surface emissivity. Surface emissivity maps obtained from the high spatial resolution of S2/MSI are…
Effect of Cu-Zn coated steel fibers on high temperature resistance of reactive powder concrete
2019
Abstract Even though many studies have reported about the impacts of shape, length and distribution of steel fiber reinforcement on global concrete properties, there is a lack of information about the influence of coating type of steel fibers on high temperature resistance of concrete. This paper describes the effect of Cu-Zn coated steel fibers on selected properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC) after exposure to elevated temperatures. The initial corrosion of zinc in Cu-Zn surface layer is found to be already activated by the alkaline environment of the fresh concrete. The RPC samples reinforced with Cu-Zn coated steel fibers are heated to 600 °C and 1000 °C, and the influence of the…
