Laparoscopy in Acute Mesenteric Ischemia

2011

Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a life-threatening vascular disease which often requires emergent surgical treatment. Early diagnosis and immediate intervention to adequately restore the mesenteric blood flow are mandatory to prevent bowel necrosis and patient death. The underlying cause is varied and the prognosis depends on pathologic findings [1, 2].

A rare giant Killian-Jamieson diverticulum in a 97-year-old female considerations and multidisciplinary treatments in a symptomatic patient

2014

The purpose of this publication is to describe the clinical and imaging findings of rare symptomatic giant Killian-Jamieson diverticulum (KJD) detected in a 97-year-old female patient and discuss diagnostic and therapeutic protocols to be implemented. The clinical history began implementing anamnesis and physical examination, followed by laryngoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, sonographic examination and subsequently a double-contrast pharyngoesophagram evaluations, to our symptomatic old patient with results of typically KJD, with maximal dimension of 5 cm. The KJD was successfully treated with a surgical approach, esophagomyotomy in addition to a diverticulopexy; these techniques were u…

SURGICAL TREATMENT OF SACROCOCCYGEAL PILONIDAL SINUS WITH THE LIMBERG FLAP: REVIEW OF 81 CASES

2016

Pilonidal sinus disease is a complex condition that causes both discomfort and embarassment to suffers. Direct cost through absence from work is high. Controversy still exists regarding the best surgical technique for its treatment in terms of minimizing disease recurrence and patient discomfort. Thus, we conducted this study to evaluate the results of rhomboid excision and Limberg flap reconstruction in the surgical treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. This prospective study included 81 patients who had pilonidal sinus and were treated by the rhomboid excision and Limberg flap. The mean follow-up was 18 months and all patients were satisfied with the procedure. There were lower complicati…

Surgical treatment of liver hydatidosis: our experience with diagnostic and therapeutic consideration

2005

Objective: The Authors report on their experience in diagnosis and treatment of liver hydatidosis (LH). Materials and methods: From January 2000 to December 2003, we observed 24 patients (10 male = 42% and 14 female = 58%, male/female ratio 1:1.4, range of age 23 - 80 years, mean age 45.25 years). The most frequent initial symptom was hepigastric and hypocondriac pain (82.6%), meanwhile acute abdominal pain was only in 26.1%. In one half of cases performed radical surgery (total pericistectomy), in 35% of cases the AA subtotal pericistectomy and only in 17% the AA partial pericistectomy. Evaluation and management of hemorrhoids: Italian society of colorectal surgery (SICCR) consensus statement

2020

Hemorrhoidal disease (HD) is the most common proctological disease in the Western countries. However, its real prevalence is underestimated due to the frequent self-medication. The aim of this consensus statement is to provide evidence-based data to allow an individualized and appropriate management and treatment of HD. The strategy used to search for evidence was based on application of electronic sources such as MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Review Library, CINAHL, and EMBASE. These guidelines are inclusive and not prescriptive. The recommendations were defined and graded based on the current levels of evidence and in accordance with the criteria adopted by American College of Chest Physician…
