The "sandwich technique" for iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens implantation.

ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To describe a new technique of implantation of the Artisan/Verisyse phakic intraocular lens (PIOL). METHODS: After PIOL insertion into the anterior chamber, a bolus of a high viscosity ophthalmic viseosurgical device (OVD) is placed over the optic, separating it widely from the endothelium. RESULTS: The technique decreases the chance of endothelial damage during enclavation. CONCLUSIONS: A bolus of a high viscosity OVD placed on the anterior surface of the Artisan/Verisyse PIOL may make enclavation safer. [J Refract Surg. 2006;22:96-98.]
Surgical management of retinal detachment because of macular hole in highly myopic eyes

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to review the current management of macular hole retinal detachment in highly myopic eyes. METHODS: We searched English MEDLINE databases from January 1997 to January 2011 for surgical management of macular hole retinal detachment in highly myopic eyes. The main outcomes reported include retinal reattachment and visual acuity after primary surgery. PURPOSE. Retropupillary implantation of an iris claw lens offers a rapid and atraumatic approach for rehabilitation of aphakic eyes. The difficulty in the implantation process arises because of the possibility of losing the intraocular lens (IOL) into the vitreous cavity and the need to change the hand holding the forceps during the enclavation. M ETHODS. The new forceps design radically changes the method of grasping an IOL. It contains an extendable supporting plate with a hook-like end. They require visualization of middle ear structures behind the eardrum. Up to now, this is provided by an oto endoscope. This work focused on implementing a real-time augmented reality based system for robotic-assisted transtympanic surgery. The use of synthetic adhesives such as cyanoacrylates for closing surgical wounds remains controversial. In a multicenter, prospective and randomized clinical trial, we compared a new cyanoacrylate elastic tissue adhesive, Adhflex, with standard suturing methods for repairing surgical wounds.
