Quantification of fluorescent STR genotyping results for chimerism control after bone marrow transplantation

2003

1. IntroductionEngraftment of donor stem cells after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation can begenetically monitored by PCR typing of DNA polymorphisms [1]. Successful engraftmentwith complete chimerism and presence of the donor’s genotype in the bone marrow has tobe demonstrated, and the presence of the patient’s alleles has to be excluded. Detection ofthe patient’s alleles provides evidence for an incomplete chimerism or for a relapse ofmalignant disease. STRs have been used successfully for this type of genetic monitoring[2]. For the present study, we have developed an approach to quantify the ratio of donorchimerism using mock mixture experiments. The usefulness of our approach is de…

Recently published sources preserved in the Archivio Ducal de Medinaceli allow to study a linguistic, social and economic aspect of an area of southern Calabria that in the Norman-Swabian kingdom maintained a population of rite and Byzantine private language. À partir des nouvelles sources, disponibles suite à la publication des actes privés grecs de l’Archivo Ducal de Medinaceli, on étudie ici la société rurale de l…

The burden of Candida species colonization in NICU patients: a colonization surveillance study

2017

Fungal infections are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The identifi-cation of specific risk factors supports pre-vention of candidemia in neonates. Effec-tive prophylactic strategies have recently become available, but the identification and adequate management of high-risk in-fants is still a priority. Prior colonization is a key risk factor for candidemia. For this reason, surveillance studies to monitor in-cidence, species distribution, and antifun-gal susceptibility profiles, are mandatory. Among 520 infants admitted to our NICU between January 2013 and December 2014, 472 (90.77%) were included in the study. Forty-eight out of 472 (…

Intermittent Theta-Burst Stimulation Over the Suprahyoid Muscles Motor Cortex Facilitates Increased Degree Centrality in Healthy Subjects

2020

Theta-burst stimulation (TBS), a variant of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), can potentially benefit the treatment of swallowing disorders. However, the after-effects of TBS on the swallowing motor cortex remain uncertain. The newly developed graph-based analysis of the centrality approach has been increasingly used to explore brain networks. The purpose of this study was to identify degree centrality (DC) alterations in the brain network after different TBS protocols were performed over the suprahyoid muscles motor cortex in healthy subjects. A total of 40 right-handed healthy subjects (mean age: 23.73 ± 2.57 years, range: 21–30, 20 females) were included in this study …

HUMAN BALANCE EVALUATION IN SUBJECTS WITH CERVICAL INJURIES COMPARED TO HEALTHY SUBJECTS: RESULTS OF A PILOT STUDY

2011

Introduction It is very important that forensic medicine properly calculates the biological damage not only through the disturbance indicated by the patient, but more accurately through instrumental diagnosis. Our aim was to verify through posturography the qualitative and quantitative alterations of postural stability in subjects with cervical trauma, compared to the control group. Methods We analysed 78 subjects, selecting 42 volunteers and distinguishing a control group of 22 normal men (NM) and a group of 20 men (WM) with a positive anamnesis of whiplash injury for six months. Through a force platform, we recorded the Centre of Pressure (CoP) movements of these groups, both with their e…

Impacts of climate change on water availability in Burgundy : quantitative and qualitative aspects

2016

Numerous studies dealing with climate change impacts on water ressources have been done at global scale, but the moderated size watersheds scale is less studied. The Burgundy region is located over several hydrographical basins (Seine, Loire and Rhône river), and provides a great diversity of hydrogeological and climate contexts. For these reasons, impacts of climate change on water resources are expected to be very different in space, and require an entire hydroclimatic modelling chain at local scale to be assessed. The main objective of this thesis consisted of the implementation of a modelling tool at the moderated-size watersheds scale of Burgundy. In this way, several watersheds and tw…
