Electrochemically prepared oxides for resistive switching devices

Redox-based resistive switching memories (ReRAM) based on metal oxides are considered as the next generation non-volatile memories and building units for neuromorphic computing. Using different deposition techniques results however in different structural and electric properties, modulating the device performance. In this study HfO2 and Nb2O5 were prepared electrochemically by anodizing sputtering-deposited Hf and Nb in borate buffer solution. Dynamic packet scheduling performance in UTRA Long Term Evolution downlink

In this paper we evaluate the performance of dynamic Packet Scheduling (PS) of 3GPP UTRAN Long Term Evolution (LTE) Downlink. Packet scheduling is of utmost importance in 3G LTE, because all traffic types with different Quality of Service requirements are competing of the resources. We present a decoupled time and frequency domain packet scheduling framework for LTE downlink. Simulation results with three basic packet scheduler combinations with different amount of fairness are presented in four different 3GPP macro simulation cases to show the both extremes in tradeoff between fairness and spectral efficiency. The main aim of this special issue is to report the recent advances and new trends in memristors and nonequilibrium stochastic multistable systems, both theoretically and experimentally, within an interdisci-plinary context. Transform-limited pulses generated by an actively Q-switched distributed fiber laser.

2008

A single-mode, transform-limited, actively Q-switched distributed-feedback fiber laser is presented, based on a new in-line acoustic pulse generator. Our technique permits a continuous adjustment of the repetition rate that modulates the Q factor of the cavity. Optical pulses of 800 mW peak power, 32 ns temporal width, and up to 20 kHz repetition rates were obtained. The measured linewidth demonstrates that these pulses are transform limited: 6 MHz for a train of pulses of 10 kHz repetition rate, 80 ns temporal width, and 60 mW peak power. Efficient excitation of spontaneous Brillouin scattering is demonstrated.

Design and implementation of a portable fNIRS embedded system

We report on the design, development and operation of a portable, low cost, battery-operated, multi-channel, functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy embedded system, hosting up to 64 optical sources and 128 Silicon PhotoMultiplier optical detectors. The system is realized as a scalable architecture, whose elementary leaf consists of a probe board provided with 16 SiPMs, 4 couples of bi-color LED, and a temperature sensor, built on a flexible stand. The hardware structure is very versatile because it is possible to handle both the switching time of the LED and the acquisition of the photodetectors, via an ARM based microcontroller.

Q switching and mode locking pulse generation from an all-fiber ring laser by intermodal acousto-optic bandpass modulation

Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) pulse generation from an all-fiber ring laser based on intermodal acousto-optic bandpass modulation is reported. The modulator relies on full-acousto-optic mode re-coupling cycle induced by a standing flexural acoustic wave, with a transmission response that is controlled by amplitude modulation of the acoustic wave signal. The Q factor of the cavity is controlled by a rectangular pulse wave with variable frequency and duty cycle, whereas mode locking is achieved by amplitude modulation derived from a standing flexural acoustic wave. Enhanced supercontinuum generation in the nanosecond pump regime using specialty microstructured fibers

Several alternatives have been investigated to achieve enhanced supercontinuum generation in the nanosecond pump regime using specialty silica-based microstructured optical fibers (MOFs). Among these alternatives we can point out the use of (a) MOF tapers, (b) highly Ge-doped core Y-shaped MOF and (c) Er-doped MOF. These specialty MOFs provide either an increased material nonlinear response or a rather small effective area, at the same time that the dispersion characteristics are adjusted to work at different excitation conditions. Supercontinuum Q-switched Yb fiber laser using an intracavity microstructured fiber

We report on an intracavity configuration for supercontinuum generation in a Q-switched Yb fiber laser. The supercontinuum laser includes a section of microstructured fiber within the Q-switched laser cavity. With 380 mW of pump power, the supercontinuum laser can emit broadband pulses of 6 microJ energy and 10 ns temporal width, at repetition rates from few hertz up to 2 kHz. The supercontinuum spectrum spans over a wavelength range in excess of 1.4 microm.
