Optical kerr effect in the strong field regime

2013

The optical Kerr response of hydrogen atom submitted to a strong and short near infrared laser pulse excitation is studied by solving the full 3D time-dependent Schro¨dinger equation. The nonlinear polarization evaluated at the driving field frequency is compared to the canonical expression derived from perturbation theory. A discrepancy between the two models is observed at large intensity affecting the nonlinear propagation of short and intense laser pulses.

The Collinear Fast Beam laser Spectroscopy (Cfbs) experiment at Triumf

2016

Abstract Laser spectroscopy experiments at radioactive ion beam facilities around the world investigate properties of exotic nuclei for scientific endeavours such as, but not limited to, the investigation of nuclear structure. Advancements in experimental sensitivity and performance are continuously needed in order to extend the reach of nuclei that can be measured. The collinear fast beam laser spectroscopy ( Cfbs ) setup at Triumf , coupled to an out-of-plane radio-frequency quadrupole Paul trap, enables measurements of some of the most fundamental nuclear properties for long-lived ground and isomeric states. The first comprehensive overview of the Cfbs experiment is provided along with d…

Actively Q-switched and modelocked all-fiber lasers

2010

Here we demonstrate active mode-locking (ML) and doubly-active Q-switching mode-locking (QML) of erbium-doped strictly all-fiber lasers. The active ML mechanism relies in the acoustooptic superlattice modulation (AOSLM) effect induced when longitudinal acoustic waves are launched along a fiber Bragg grating. In both regimes - ML as well as QML - we focus on the laser behavior when the AOSLM is driven by traveling acoustic waves, and next we compare these results with those obtained when the AOSLM is driven by standing acoustic waves. In the ML regime, optical pulses were obtained of 530 mW peak power, 700 ps temporal width, at a repetition rate of 4.1 MHz. On the other hand, in the QML regi…

Acceleration of diffusion in randomly switching potential with supersymmetry

2004

We investigate the overdamped Brownian motion in a supersymmetric periodic potential switched by Markovian dichotomous noise between two configurations. The two configurations differ from each other by a shift of one-half period. The calculation of the effective diffusion coefficient is reduced to the mean first passage time problem. We derive general equations to calculate the effective diffusion coefficient of Brownian particles moving in arbitrary supersymmetric potential. For the sawtooth potential, we obtain the exact expression for the effective diffusion coefficient, which is valid for the arbitrary mean rate of potential switchings and arbitrary intensity of white Gaussian noise. We…

Platform switching on wide-diameter external hex implants: a finite element analysis.

2012

Objectives: The objective of this work was to use finite element analysis to compare the effect of forces coming to bear on abutments 4.1 or 5.0 mm in diameter connected to a 5.0 mm implant (i.e. with or without platform swit - ching). Study design: A 3D CAD model of a 5 x 11.5 mm external hex implant was developed, complete with a connection screw and either of two abutments, one 4.1 and the other 5 mm in diameter, to assess the influence of two loading conditions, i.e. 200 N loaded either axially or off center on the top of the abutment. Results and conclusions: In the symmetrically loaded models, greater stresses were transmitted to the bone in the area below the neck of the implant in t…

Innovative Computational Approach to Harmonic Mitigation for Seven-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverters

2020

Low frequency modulation strategies are a good solution to increase the energy conversion efficiency in high power applications. The paper is devoted to presents an innovative way to low order harmonics mitigation for seven-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverters. In particular, this approach is based on the mitigation of selected harmonics without solve non-linear equations for an extended range of the fundamental amplitude. In fact, in real-Time operation to evaluate the control angles the polynomial equations have been identified. Through circuit simulation analysis in MatLab/PLECS environment, the effectiveness of the harmonic mitigation method has been tested and compared with theoretical re…

A Novel Computational Approach for Harmonic Mitigation in PV Systems with Single-Phase Five-Level CHBMI

2018

In this paper, a novel approach to low order harmonic mitigation in fundamental switching frequency modulation is proposed for high power photovoltaic (PV) applications, without trying to solve the cumbersome non-linear transcendental equations. The proposed method allows for mitigation of the first-five harmonics (third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh harmonics), to reduce the complexity of the required procedure and to allocate few computational resource in the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based control board. Therefore, the voltage waveform taken into account is different respect traditional voltage waveform. The same concept, known as “voltage cancelation”, used for single-…

Post extractive implant: evaluation of the critical aspects

2017

Purpose Nowadays, implant supported prosthetic rehabilitation is a reliable procedure to replace compromised or untreatable teeth. The purpose of this review is to explore the concept of post extractive implant and the indications for clinical practice through an analysis of recent studies in the literature. All the main factors that could influence the outcome of this treatment will also be considered. Materials and methods Focusing on the extraction-socket healing time, three different implant insertion protocols have been defined: Immediate implant placement (IIP), Early implant placement (EIP), Delayed implant placement (DIP). The entity of bone remodeling can be associated with differe…

Characterization of inductors in partial saturation for SMPS applications

2017

The exploitation of partially saturated inductors in Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a key strategy for reducing the size of SMPS and increasing their power density [1]. However an accurate characterization and modellization of each inductor is needed for a correct design and control of the SMPS [2]. Most of inductors' datasheets only indicate the nominal inductance at low current. Anyway, when the inductor is subjected to a higher current, the value of the inductance is lessened. Moreover, inductance meters often actuate their measurements at no or moderate DC bias. In this work we describe the realization of an automated test bench (Fig. 1) for characterizing an inductor under varia…
