A fixed point theorem for uniformly locally contractive mappings in a C-chainable cone rectangular metric space
2011
Recently, Azam, Arshad and Beg [ Banach contraction principle on cone rectangular metric spaces, Appl. Anal. Discrete Math. 2009] introduced the notion of cone rectangular metric spaces by replacing the triangular inequality of a cone metric space by a rectangular inequality. In this paper, we introduce the notion of c-chainable cone rectangular metric space and we establish a fixed point theorem for uniformly locally contractive mappings in such spaces. An example is given to illustrate our obtained result.
“Sick woman” or “half woman”? Breast and cervical cancer, emotional script and representations of female body in a mediterranean area of Italy
2016
The proposal aims to highlight the semiotic elements of the discourse that refer to the symbolic ones of representations, and that transform the therapy in an exercise of professional dominion aimed to modify the perception of the self of the female patient through the subversion of specific emotional script. The mapping of the emotional scripts of shame and modesty, in their performative evolution, will be useful to demonstrate how and through what relational strategies the medicalization performs a gender violence which leads to exclude and self-stigmatise the sick woman, considered a “half woman”. The reflection that has its incipit in the ascertainment that the female body has been and …
Tra mafia, politica e “discorsi di legalità”
2015
Starting from a synthetic review of the studies about the importance of symbolic dimension for the construction of Cosa Nostra’s power (from the area of knowledge to the one of identity, from rituals to myths and apologetics), the paper analyses the ambiguity of the talk-interactions between “men of honour” during the development of conversational grounding for their inter-subjectivity (in Schegloff‘s words). According to the rules, spoken exchanges between Cosa Nostra’s members should be governed by the twofold restriction of the law of silence toward the world outside and the obligation of speaking the truth inside the organization. But in real life, things are different. Mafia’s language…
Spaces of weighted symbols and weighted sobolev spaces on manifolds
1987
This paper gives an approach to pseudodifferential operators on noncompact manifolds using a suitable class of weighted symbols and Sobolev spaces introduced by H.O. Cordes on ℙ. Here, these spaces are shown to be invariant under certain changes of coordinates. It is therefore possible to transfer them to manifolds with a compatible structure.
Language and Symbolic Play in Toddlers
1997
Language-play relations were examined in 110 18-month-old toddlers by observing their play actions in the Symbolic Play Test and assessing their language skills with the CDI parental report and the Reynell Developmental Language Scales. Significant associations between both language comprehension and production (vocabulary, use of suffixes, utterance length) and play were found when percentage of symbolic play was used as the measure of play competence. The total play score which included both functional-relational toy manipulation and symbolic play was not as strongly associated with the language measures. In both play measures relations were, however, higher between play and language com…
Alternativas en la investigación de los aspectos sociales del desarrollo cognitivo
2001
The terms “social” and “cultural” are ambiguous and can be used with different meanings. This paper tries to clarify the prevailing conceptions of the social factors that intervene in cognitive development, as found in developmental psychology. These conceptions are grouped into five main approaches, based on their theoretical commitments and the corresponding methodological strategies: 1) some theories treat the social world as an object of knowledge; 2) other theories see social life as consisting in a collection of symbolic interactions; 3) some approaches tend to consider socio-cultural variables as constituting an environment that influences individual subjects; 4) still other approach…
The micro-politics of parliamentary powers : European parliament strategies for expanding its influence in the EU institutional system
2018
The European Parliament (EP) has gained considerable new powers since it was first established in 1952. Why has this happened, and how should the powers the EP possesses be assessed? This article suggests a novel approach that focuses on inter-institutional micropolitics and the processes in which the EP obtained its powers rather than treaty changes at IGCs. Interinstitutional micropolitics are carried out by institutions and their members who act politically and shape the EU’s system from within. The EP’s successes in interinstitutional micropolitics are shaped by (1) its existing powers that need to be assessed in their differentiation; (2) the interparliamentary setting and the power co…
National orientation, universal outlook – the symbolic capital of FC Barcelona in the global era
2008
AbstractFrom its beginnings, FC Barcelona has been a sports entity in which an important nationalist orientation has coincided with a culture of integration and global openness. The first characteristic was forged from the second decade of the 20th century, when the club became a symbol of Catalonia. The second could be detected throughout the 20th century, both in the foreign origins of its founders and in the majority of its star players, as well as in the inter-classism and universality that characterizes its followers. This article examines to what extent FC Barcelona can continue to be seen nowadays as an institution that articulates the local and the global in Catalan society.
