Transitions out of unemployment: The role of social networks' topology and firms' recruitment strategies
2011
In this paper we study the effects of job contact networks on out-of-unemployment transitions. We find that social connections produce sizable increases in upward mobility from unemployment and, caeteris paribus, symmetric network topologies perform better than asymmetric ones. Furthermore, in scale-free networks the probability of transitions out of unemployment increases in the exponent of the power-law degree distribution, but its value is much lower than the one attainable in Poisson random networks. In addition, and most interestingly, these results strongly depends on the different hypotheses on the firms' recruitment strategy.
Taylorism on steroids or enabling autonomy? A systematic review of algorithmic management
2023
AbstractThe use of algorithmic management systems is rapidly changing organizational models and practices, as millions of workers in multiple sectors worldwide are managed by computer software. Despite receiving increasing academic interest, little summarizing literature exist on the ways algorithmic systems are used in management. This article aims to fill this gap by systematically reviewing and qualitatively analyzing 172 articles on the topic. Our research contributes to the existent algorithmic management literature in three ways. First, we provide a descriptive overview of algorithmic management as a field of research. Second, we identify and synthesize the discussion on the key conce…
D3 Dihedral Logistic Map of Fractional Order
2021
In this paper, the D3 dihedral logistic map of fractional order is introduced. The map presents a dihedral symmetry D3. It is numerically shown that the construction and interpretation of the bifurcation diagram versus the fractional order requires special attention. The system stability is determined and the problem of hidden attractors is analyzed. Furthermore, analytical and numerical results show that the chaotic attractor of integer order, with D3 symmetries, looses its symmetry in the fractional-order variant.
Crystallization and preliminary crystallographic analysis of the major capsid proteins VP16 and VP17 of bacteriophage P23-77.
2012
The major capsid proteins VP16 and VP17 of bacteriophage P23-77 have been crystallized using both recombinant and purified virus and preliminary diffraction analyses have been performed.
Crystal structure of a new spiro-polytetrahydrofuran compound with translational pseudosymmetry: rac-(2S,2′S,5′R)-2-methyl-5′-[(1R,2R,5S,5′R)-1,4,4,5…
2017
The title compound, C22H34O6, is a product of oxidation of squalene with the catalytic system RuO4(cat.)/NaIO4. The asymmetric unit contains two crystallographically independent molecules of very similar geometry approximately related by the non-crystallographic translation vector c/2. As a consequence, the average diffracted intensity in the hkl layers with odd l is systematically lower than in the layers with even l. In one molecule, the lactone ring and part of the adjacent tetrahydrofuran ring are disordered over two orientations with refined occupancy ratio of 0.831 (10):0.169 (10). The crystal structure is mainly governed by van der Waals forces.
Phenotypic Buffering in a Monogenean: Canalization and Developmental Stability in Shape and Size of the Haptoral Anchors of Ligophorus cephali (Monog…
2015
Phenotypic variation results from the balance between sources of variation and counteracting regulatory mechanisms. Canalization and developmental stability are two such mechanisms, acting at two different levels of regulation. The issue of whether or not they act concurrently as a common developmental buffering capacity has been subject to debate. We used geometric morphometrics to quantify the mechanisms that guarantee phenotypic constancy in the haptoral anchors of Ligophorus cephali. Canalization and developmental stability were appraised by estimating inter- and intra-individual variation, respectively, in size and shape of dorsal and ventral anchors. The latter variation was estimated…
Breaking of discrete symmetries and global lepton number in neutrino physics
2019
On the limit velocity and buckling phenomena of axially moving orthotropic membranes and plates
2011
In this paper, we consider the static stability problems of axially moving orthotropic membranes and plates. The study is motivated by paper production processes, as paper has a fiber structure which can be described as orthotropic on the macroscopic level. The moving web is modeled as an axially moving orthotropic plate. The original dynamic plate problem is reduced to a two-dimensional spectral problem for static stability analysis, and solved using analytical techniques. As a result, the minimal eigenvalue and the corresponding buckling mode are found. It is observed that the buckling mode has a shape localized in the regions close to the free boundaries. The localization effect is demon…
lhc phenomenology and neutrino physics in gut inspired susy models
2014
