Room temperature synthesis of lanthanum phosphates with controlled nanotexture as host for Ln(III) through the Epoxide Route

AbstractHerein, the Epoxide Route, a one-pot room temperature alkalinization method based on the reaction between a nucleophile and an epoxide, has been employed to synthesize LaPO4 in the form of a Rhabdophane phase. The intrinsic features of this synthetic approach allow the reaction to be followed by pH monitoring, making possible the identification of the different precipitation steps involved in the formation of the solid. Once demonstrated the effectiveness of this chemical methodology, the size and shape of the LaPO4 particles were controlled by varying the identity and proportion of the organic co-solvents employed to perform the reaction. Sustainable Recycling of Insoluble Rust Waste for the Synthesis of Iron-Containing Perovskite-Type Catalysts

Insoluble rust waste from the scraping of rusted iron-containing materials represents a cheap, eco-friendly, and available source of iron. LaFeO3 perovskite-type powders were successfully prepared by solution combustion synthesis using rust waste from an electricity transmission tower manufacturer. Solution combustion synthesis enabled introduction of this insoluble iron precursor directly into the final product, bypassing complex extraction procedures. Catalytic activity in the propylene oxidation of the waste-derived LaFeO3 with stoichiometric Fe/La ratio was almost identical to the commercial iron nitrate-derived LaFeO3 , thus demonstrating the viability of this recycling solution. Improved synthesis and application of conjugation-amenable polyols from d-mannose

A series of polyhydroxyl sulfides and triazoles was prepared by reacting allyl and propargyl D-mannose derivatives with selected thiols and azides in thiol–ene and Huisgen click reactions. Conformational analysis by NMR spectroscopy proved that the intrinsic rigidity and linear conformation of the mannose derived polyol backbone is retained in the final click products in solution. Single crystal X-ray structure determination of one of the compounds prepared further verified that the linear conformation of the polyol segment is also retained in the solid state. Soundscape design through evolutionary engines

Abstract Two implementations of an Evolutionary Sound Synthesis method using the Interaural Time Difference (ITD) and psychoacoustic descriptors are presented here as a way to develop criteria for fitness evaluation. We also explore a relationship between adaptive sound evolution and three soundscape characteristics: keysounds, key-signals and sound-marks. Sonic Localization Field is defined using a sound attenuation factor and ITD azimuth angle, respectively (Ii, Li). Numerical methods for a nonlinear impact model: A comparative study with closed-form corrections

A physically based impact model-already known and exploited in the field of sound synthesis-is studied using both analytical tools and numerical simulations. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of a physical system composed of a mass impacting on a wall can be expressed analytically as a function of the mass velocity during contact. Moreover, an efficient and accurate approximation for the mass outbound velocity is presented, which allows to estimate the Hamiltonian at the end of the contact.
