From Symmetry Breaking to Unraveling the Origin of the Chirality of Ligated Au13 Cu2 Nanoclusters

A general method, using mixed ligands (here diphosphines and thiolates) is devised to turn an achiral metal cluster, Au13 Cu2 , into an enantiomeric pair by breaking (lowering) the overall molecular symmetry with the ligands. Using an achiral diphosphine, a racemic [Au13 Cu2 (DPPP)3 (SPy)6 ]+ was prepared which crystallizes in centrosymmetric space groups. Using chiral diphosphines, enantioselective synthesis of an optically pure, enantiomeric pair of [Au13 Cu2 ((2r,4r)/(2s,4s)-BDPP)3 (SPy)6 ]+ was achieved in one pot. Possible relationship between micronucleated and binucleated cells induced by cisplatin in cultured CHO cells

Abstract Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells were treated with a single dose (10 μg/ml) of cis-diammino-dichloroplatinum (II) (cisplatin) for 1 h and the effect of the drug on the kinetics of proliferation of the cultures was studied. It was found that the drug produces a delay in the proliferation rates of the treated cultures. The induction of micronuclei and binucleated cells (BC) at different times after treatment have also been studied, and the ability of these cells to undergo DNA synthesis (measured as the ability to incorporate [3H]thymidine) is shown. In the preceding chapter, we have emphasized the dangers that the advent of dioxygen presented to the existing anaerobic organisms, and the ways they evolved to deal with the problems. However, this is only part of the story and were it to have ended here, we and the world we know would not exist. What happened instead was quite remarkable; for life seized upon an opportunity presented by the presence of free dioxygen to become many-fold more efficient in extracting energy from foodstuffs. As we shall see, this aerobic, oxidative metabolism opened in turn a multitude of new opportunities for growth and diversification.

Transcriptome profiling of citrus fruit response to huanglongbing disease.

Huanglongbing (HLB) or "citrus greening" is the most destructive citrus disease worldwide. In this work, we studied host responses of citrus to infection with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CaLas) using next-generation sequencing technologies. A deep mRNA profile was obtained from peel of healthy and HLB- affected fruit. It was followed by pathway and protein-protein network analysis and quantitative real time PCR analysis of highly regulated genes. The present review discusses the known synthetic routes to the lamellarin alkaloids published until 2014. It begins with syntheses of the structurally simpler type-II lamellarins and then focuses on the larger class of the 5,6-saturated and -unsaturated type-I lamellarins. The syntheses are grouped by the strategy employed for the assembly of the central pyrrole ring.

Noise-tolerant efficient inductive synthesis of regular expressions from good examples

We present an almost linear time method of inductive synthesis restoring simple regular expressions from one representative (good) example. In particular, we consider synthesis of expressions of star-height one, where we allow one union operation under each iteration, and synthesis of expressions without union operations from examples that may contain mistakes. In both cases we provide sufficient conditions defining precisely the class of target expressions and the notion of good examples under which the synthesis algorithm works correctly, and present the proof of correctness. Several pharmacokinetic processes are affected by enantioselectivity (ES). At the level of distribution, protein binding (PB) is one of the most important. The enantioselective binding of fluoxetine (FLX) to HSA has been evaluated in this work by ultrafiltration of FLX–HSA mixtures and chiral analysis of unbound fractions by EKC-CD. PB, affinity constants (K) and ES were obtained for both enantiomers of FLX. Pheromone-induced olfactory memory in newborn rabbits: Involvement of consolidation and reconsolidation processes.

2009

Mammary pheromone (MP)-induced odor memory is a new model of appetitive memory functioning early in a mammal, the newborn rabbit. Some properties of this associative memory are analyzed by the use of anisomycin as an amnesic agent. Long-term memory (LTM) was impaired by anisomycin delivered immediately, but not 4 h after either acquisition or reactivation. Thus, the results suggest that this form of neonatal memory requires both consolidation and reconsolidation. By extending these notions to appetitive memory, the results reveal that consolidation and reconsolidation processes are characteristics of associative memories of positive events not only in the adult, but also in the newborn.
