Process Improvement Solution for Mobile Platform Customer SW Development

2008

Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2008 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Time to market is becoming an increasingly important topic in software industry. In this trend, handling customer change requests is of a paramount importance. In the current thesis, we investigate reducing the lead time of handling customer requests at EMP Grimstad. Problems were identified and an extensive solution that covers all the aspects of these problems are presented. An experience was conducted and the first results are promising.

Uncertainty in information system development: Causes, effects, and coping mechanisms

2020

Information system development (ISD) projects are an ever-growing field of project management (PM) with their unique features, and project failures in ISD are relatively common. In the broader context of PM, uncertainty is a studied, yet mercurial phenomenon. By contrast, uncertainty in ISD projects has received relatively little attention from scholars, and PM literature has not systematically focused on uncertainty in ISD from a viewpoint other than that of project managers. In order to understand uncertainties in ISD projects, we need to first understand the causes behind them, their effects on everyday ISD work, and share coping mechanisms utilized among industry professionals. In the c…

Method Engineering: Current research directions and implications for future research

1996

In this study we investigate method engineering research by classifying studies into three contexts: technology, language and organization. Within each context we examine research bias, research outcomes and use of alternative research methods. This survey reveals the inherent bias of ME research towards tool and language development at the cost of empirical studies. We lack investigations of why organizations develop their own “variants” of system development methods, and how they manage their method engineering efforts. These observations lead us to suggest some directions for future research, which relate both to actual research questions and to the use of complementary research methods.

Research of Tool-Coupling Based Electro-hydraulic System Development Method

2015

This paper introduces a new kind of tool-coupling based electro-hydraulic system development method including designing character-oriented electro-hydraulic system development and design procedure, co-simulation based system coupling strategy, client-server model management method. An integrated development platform is designed for co-simulation among AMESim, Matlab\Simulink, Flowmaster, Saber and Simplorer. The platform can manage each simulator’s models and co-simulation procedure. The result illustrates tool coupling based electro-hydraulic system development method can improve the efficiency of multi-team collaborative design for electro-hydraulic system and also can analyze and evaluat…

Process and technology challenges in swift-starting virtual teams

2007

Originally published in the journal Information & Management : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/03787206 Virtual teams often face tight schedules and a need to start quickly and perform instantly. The goal of our study was to enhance understanding of the challenges faced by such teams. We used time–interaction–performance theory as the framework for following the processes and functions within virtual teams working on a systems development task. Our study provided a detailed examination of the group process, applied to virtual teams working under time pressure. The challenges faced by virtual teams in such settings showed that teams must work to enhance their effectiveness in mu…

Toward Effective Risk Management in is Development: Introduction to Risk Based Scorecard

1999

Though, both academics and practitioners, recognise the importance of risks related to information systems development (ISD) process, relatively little attention has been paid to this problem. In this paper we distinguish three types of ISD activity, representing three levels of IT concerns: the development of an organization’s IT strategy (the strategy level); the selection of a portfolio of IS projects (the planning level); the management of a system development (the management level); a useful feature of the book: the exercises

Learning failure in information systems development

1999

Information systems development is a high-risk undertaking, and fail- ures remain common despite advances in development tools and technologies. In this paper, we argue that one reason for this is the collapse of organizational intelligence required to deal with the complexities of systems development. Orga- nizations fail to learn from their experience in systems development because of limits of organizational intelligence, disincentives for learning, organizational designs and educational barriers. Not only have many organizations failed to learn, but they have also learned to fail. Over time they accept and expect poor perfor- mance while creating organizational myths that perpetuate sho…

Consumer Information Systems Development

2013

We suggest that a new type of information system appears to be increasing in importance, that of consumer information systems. Compared with traditional information systems development approaches, where the focus is on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational processes, design for consumer information systems focuses more on the enjoyment, pleasure and purchases of the consumer. We argue that the shift in focus from users to consumers in consumer information systems calls for a significant re-appraisal of our current information systems development methods. Hence, this chapter proposes a new research agenda for IS researchers focusing on the development of consumer infor…
