We present a systematic approach to the practical and comprehensive handling of missing data motivated by our experiences of analyzing longitudinal survey data. We consider the Health 2000 and 2011 Surveys (BRIF8901) where increased non-response and non-participation from 2000 to 2011 was a major issue. The model assumptions involved in the complex sampling design, repeated measurements design, non-participation mechanisms and associations are presented graphically using methodology previously defined as a causal model with design, i.e. a functional causal model extended with the study design. Tests for real and complex unit roots in vector autoregressive models

The article proposes new tests for the number of real and complex unit roots in vector autoregressive models. The tests are based on the eigenvalues of the sample companion matrix. The limiting distributions of the eigenvalues converging to the unit eigenvalues turn out to be of a non-standard form and expressible in terms of Brownian motions. The tests are defined such that the null distributions related to eigenvalues +/-1 are the same. The tests for the unit eigenvalues with nonzero imaginary part are defined independently of the angular frequency. We present a study of the network of relationships among elected members of the Finnish parliament, based on a quantitative analysis of initiative co-signatures, and its evolution over 16 years. To understand the structure of the parliament, we constructed a statistically validated network of members, based on the similarity between the patterns of initiatives they signed. We looked for communities within the network and characterized them in terms of members’ attributes, such as electoral district and party. There are two aspects in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data that make them awkward to analyse with traditional multivariate methods - high order and high dimension. The first of these refers to the tensorial nature of observations as array-valued elements instead of vectors. Although this can be circumvented by vectorizing the array, doing so simultaneously loses all the structural information in the original observations. Partnership formation and dissolution over the life course: applying sequence analysis and event history analysis in the study of recurrent events

We present two types of approach to the analysis of recurrent events for discretely measured data, and show how these methods can complement each other when analysing co-residential partnership histories. Sequence analysis is a descriptive tool that gives an overall picture of the data and helps to find typical and atypical patterns in histories. Event history analysis is used to make conclusions about the effects of covariates on the timing and duration of the partnerships.
