The development of Finnish museums over the last forty years

The focus of this article is the development of Finnish museums since the 1970s, when the Ministry of Education started to understand the social benefits of museums as social memory organizations with activities of research and education. At this point in time the Ministry began actively developing the preconditions for museum work, the main ”tools” being several political museum committees which created a museum hierarchy and network, ensured state subsidy through museum acts, established university studies of museology, and gave support to the Finnish Museums Association.

Studies framing “belonging” as a key focus and a central concept of research have increased significantly in the 2000s. This article explores the dimensions of belonging as a scholarly concept. The investigation is based on a qualitative content analysis of articles published in academic journals covering a large number of different disciplines. The article poses and answers the following research questions: How is belonging understood and used in contemporary research? What added value does the concept bring to scholarly discussions? ABSTRACTEnvironmental themes have invaded Nordic TV crime series over the past few years. In this paper, the epistemological starting points of a Swedish series, Jordskott, are examined. The paper argues that the series criticizes the traditional humanist paradigm on which realistic crime narratives are based. It does so through the introduction of fantastic non-human beings with the help of which the boundaries of ‘nature’ and ‘human being’ are set mobile. An overview of the music therapy professional recognition in the EU

This article documents the development of the professional recognition of music therapy in the EU. First, a brief history of the origins of modern music therapy in Europe is presented, followed by more detailed analysis of the establishment of training courses and professional associations across Europe. Second, the stages in the professionalization process according to Ridder, Lerner and Suvini (2015) are discussed. Third, the importance of the European Music Therapy Confederation in promoting music therapy recognition in the EU is highlighted.

Reframing Gender Equality in Finnish Online Discussion on Immigration: Populist Articulations of Religious Minorities and Marginalized Sexualities

Gender equality is an essential part of Finnish self-understanding. The public discussion on equality does not, however, only focus on gender; it is also used to promote antiimmigration-minded, homophobic opinions. In the article, the co-existence of contradictory discourses on gender equality is interpreted as populist rhetoric. The articulations of gender equality in online debates on gender, sexuality, and immigration are analyzed.
