Drawing the premises for personalized learning : illustrations of management and accounting

This paper reports on a teaching innovation using participant-generated drawings. Experienced managers were asked to produce a drawing to illustrate their work from an accounting perspective. The drawings were then used to make the managerial context of the participants the explicit starting point for personalized executive learning. This study is the first in the sphere of accounting education and research to take drawing seriously as a learning method. The results of the experiment show how drawing can be further used as a tool in management education by facilitating the visualization of the managerial contexts participants work within. peerReviewed

As attitude-researches point out, students tend to sustain an aversion to mathematics, while remaining largely ignorant of how deeply embedded it is in the world around them. Most students however are able to recognize patterns and numerous research and empirical evidence indicates that they become easily motivated when mathematical connections are presented in ways which relate to their experiences by triggering their natural curiosities. In this article I develop the concept of kinekphrasis to designate a particular form of intermediality, speci cally, the verbal representation of cinema or other form of moving image. Kinekphrasis builds upon ekphrasis, the classical rhetorical term that today generally refers to texts about static artworks, such as paintings and statues. Representing the medial complex of cinema, however, sets a distinct sensorial and semiotic challenge to a text and brings about a form of intermediality di erent from the traditional ekphrasis. Pro gradu -tutkielmani käsittelee sarjakuva-ekfrasiksen mahdollisuutta sarjakuvassa. Pyrin löytämään vastauksia seuraaviin kysymyksiin: miten ja millaisista teoreettisista lähtökohdista sarjakuva-ekfrasis rakentuu? Voidaanko sarjakuva-ekfrasiksen löytämiseksi luoda vakaata tulkintakehystä, ja pystyykö käsitteelle antamaan pätevää määritelmää? Tämä työ tehdään empiirisenä tutkimuksena äänitaiteesta ja sen suhteesta moderniin elektroniseen musiikkiin. Tätä tutkimusta varten suoritetut äänikokeilut seuraavat muutamia äänitaiteen historian pääsuuntauksia ja kertovat, miten nämä suuntaukset ovat vaikuttaneet elektronisen musiikin tuottajiin. Tutkimus on jaettu neljään osaan, joissa tutkitaan taiteen ja populäärimusiikin välistä suhdetta.
