Pedagogical environments in education for six-year-old children in Finland and in the Netherlands

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tarkastella pedagogisia toimintaympäristöjä 6-vuotiaiden lasten kasvatuksessa Suomessa ja Hollannissa sekä selvittää, löytyykö niiden välillä eroja tai yhtäläisyyksiä. Tutkimus rajattiin, mukaillen varhaiskasvatuksen laatuun keskittyviä tutkimuksia, tarkastelemaan pedagogisia strategioita sekä puitetekijöitä. Tutkimus oli laadullinen, ja se toteutettiin pääosin etnografian periaatteita noudattaen. Tutkimuksessa näkyy myös poikkikulttuurisen sekä vertailevan tutkimuksen ominaispiirteitä. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää millaisia käsityksiä ruotsinopettajaksi opiskelevilla on hyvästä ruotsinopettajasta ja ruotsinopettajan ammatista. Tutkimuksessa vertailtiin ensimmäisen ja viidennen vuoden ruotsinopiskelijoiden käsityksiä, ja tavoitteena oli tutkia eroavatko heidän käsityksensä toisistaan. Tämän lisäksi selvitettiin, ovatko opettajan pedagogiset opinnot vaikuttaneet viidennen vuoden opiskelijoiden käsityksiin hyvästä ruotsin opettajasta ja ruotsin opettajan työstä. This paper aims at scrutinizing the evolution of the retail sector and, consequently, of retailscapes in a Southern Italy city, Catania. Starting from the outputs of an empirical place-based research project carried out by the authors in the mid ’2000s, the work deepens the recent transformations occurred both in the central areas and in the suburbs, in order to explore the processes and dynamics – produced by and within the retail field – which have been shaping urban morphology and socio-economic functions in the last decade.

This chapter provides information on results of international achievement surveys and their use in monitoring educational outcomes in Finland. The educational monitoring system in Finland differs from that of many other countries. So far, little attention has been paid to its lack of standardised measurements and official control. Furthermore, Finnish education policies are strongly driven not by the aim to reach high rankings in international assessments but rather by the emphasis on quality and equity of education.
