Voltammetric Investigation on Uranyl Sorption by Alginate Based Material. Influence of Hydrolysis and pH Dependence
2015
The removal of U(VI) as uranyl (UO22+) from aqueous solutions was investigated by sorption onto alginate based material. The hydrolysis of uranyl ion was always taken into account in the calculations of free (22UO) ion in aqueous solution, in the experimental pH range considered, as well as the acid-base properties of alginate polymer. The sorption process follows a pseudo-second order kinetic model and the sorption rate decreases when the pH value increases. In addition to the classical Langmuir and Freundlich models, the equilibrium data were fitted by using a modified multi-component equilibrium model, never tested before. Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) and Inductively Coupled Plas…
Dual emission and excited-state mixed-valence in a quasi-symmetric dinuclear Ru-Ru complex.
2014
The synthesis and characterization of the new dinuclear dipeptide [(EtOOC-tpy)Ru(tpy-NHCO-tpy)Ru(tpy-NHCOCH3)](4+) 3(4+) of the bis(terpyridine)ruthenium amino acid [(HOOC-tpy)Ru(tpy-NH2)](2+) 1(2+) are described, and the properties of the dipeptide are compared to those of the mononuclear complex [(EtOOC-tpy)Ru(tpy-NHCOCH3)](2+) 4(2+) carrying the same functional groups. 3(4+) is designed to serve a high electronic similarity of the two ruthenium sites despite the intrinsic asymmetry arising from the amide bridge. This is confirmed via UV-vis absorption and NMR spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry. 4(2+) and 3(4+) are emissive at room temperature, as expected. Moreover, 3(4+) exhibit…
Neutral and oxidized triisopropylsilyl end-capped oligothienoacenes: a combined electrochemical, spectroscopic, and theoretical study.
2010
This work presents an analy- sis of the structural, electrochemical, and optical properties of a family of triisopropylsilyl end-capped oligothie- noacenes (TIPS-Tn-TIPS, n = 4-8) by combining cyclic voltammetry, spectro- scopic techniques, and quantum-chemi- cal calculations. TIPS-Tn-TIPS com- pounds form stable radical cations, and dications are only obtained for the lon- gest oligomers (n = 7 and 8). Oxidation leads to the quinoidization of the con- jugated backbone, from which elec- trons are mainly extracted. The absorp- tion and fluorescence spectra show par- tially resolved vibronic structures even at room temperature, due to the rigid molecular geometry. Two well-resolved vibronic p…

Voltammetric determinations of platinum and rhodium in particulate of Palermo (Italy) area
2012
Traffic has an important impact on the air quality which affects both the environmental and human health. Since the introduction of PGE-containing catalytic converters, a number studies have been undertaken to determine the effects of PGE emissions on human and to environment. This requires the development of good analytic methods to measure Pt and Rh concentrations in environmental matrices, as well to estimate background concentrations. In this paper are presented the results concerning Pt and Rh concentrations in PM10 samples collected at five stations within the urban area of Palermo. The highest mean values (Pt= 13 pg/m3, Rh=9.8 pg/m3) were recorded at an urban station, and the lowest …
On-line database of voltammetric data of immobilized particles for identifying pigments and minerals in archaeometry, conservation and restoration (E…
2016
[EN] A web-based database of voltammograms is presented for characterizing artists' pigments and corrosion products of ceramic, stone and metal objects by means of the voltammetry of immobilized particles methodology. Description of the website and the database is provided. Voltammograms are, in most cases, accompanied by scanning electron microphotographs, X-ray spectra, infrared spectra acquired in attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy mode (ATR-FTIR) and diffuse reflectance spectra in the UV-Vis-region. For illustrating the usefulness of the database two case studies involving identification of pigments and a case study describing deterioration of an archae…
Protein aggregates for water purification
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies including lakes, rivers, oceans and it is a leading global risk factor for illness and death for people, plants and living organisms. A principal source of water pollution is industry, from which increasing amounts of toxic pollutants are released including heavy metals such as cobalt, lead and copper. Today various technologies for purifying contaminated water can be applied, a lot of them being typically expensive, ion specific and characterised by low efficiency. For these reason, the search of new biocompatible materials with increased capabilities is strongly needed.Protein aggregates have already revealed their potential as environm…
Inverse-voltammetric determination of bismuth in biomaterials with computer assisted peak evaluation. part 3. Bismuth determination in wine, grapes a…
1989
The ultra trace element bismuth is regulary found in wine on an average of about 0.1 ppb. Very low bismuth contents were also determined in soil and different biomaterials. In spite of those very low quantities even speciation experiments show results, so far that about 90% of the bismuth in the grapes is water-soluble, resumably as saccharic acids. For detecting such low quantities a very sensitive method of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry was developped. The speciation experiments were carried out by fractional extraction.
Analysis of Contaminants in Beverages
2019
Abstract The main purpose of our researches, in the last years, was to develop reliable methods for the determination of emerging and old contaminants (Pt, Rh, V, Mo, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), etc.), at trace levels, in the solutions obtained from the mineralization or extraction of environmental and food matrices, because, in particular for metals, some of them cannot be readily analyzed using traditional method, for example, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma with mass spectrometry techniques. Few data are available on the evaluations of Pt, Rh, V, and Mo concentrations, in food matrices, because have ever been carried ou…
Layer-by-layer identification of copper alteration products in metallic works of art using the voltammetry of microparticles.
2010
An in situ technique for layer-by-layer electrochemical analysis of solid surfaces using the voltammetry of microparticles is presented. The method is based on the determination of several shape-dependent parameters for voltammetric curves recorded at a graphite pencil working electrode in contact with the sample, all immersed into aqueous electrolytes. Repetitive square wave voltammetry and sequential application of constant potential reductive steps and voltammetric scans yield discernible responses for the corrosion products distributed in stratified layers on metal-based surfaces. This methodology is applied to identify alteration products of copper and copper alloys distributed in diff…
