Abstract Behavioral factors play a fundamental role in preventing occupational injuries and accidents. Previous studies have shown that engagement in safety behavior is influenced by workers’ safety motivation. Introduction Children under five years are most at risk of experiencing fatal and nonfatal drowning. The highest proportion of drowning incidents occur in private swimming pools. Lapses in adult supervision and failures in pool barriers are leading contributory factors for pool drowning in this age group. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa yleisurheiluun liittyviä turvallisuusriskejä sekä yleisurheilun sisähalleissa että yleisurheilukentillä. Riskien kartoituksen perusteella tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, mistä uhkat johtuvat ja miten niihin voitaisiin vaikuttaa niin, että yleisurheilu olisi lajina turvallisempi sekä urheilijoille että muille lajin ystäville. Arviolta jopa puolet liikunnan tuomista terveyshyödyistä menetetään liikunnan aikana sattuneiden tapaturmien ja rasitusvammojen vuoksi.
