Mismatch, Empowerment, Fatigue or Balance? Four scenarios of physical activity up to 2030 in Finland
2022
Sedentary lifestyles and the lack of physical activity (PA) are a major concern among all age groups, and current generations tend to be less fit than the previous ones in the Western World. At the same time, there is an urgent need to cut transport-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Major gains can be foreseen if current car-centred lifestyles and sedentary behaviour are addressed from an integrated perspective. In this study, we explore future scenarios in the intersections of PA and active lifestyles as well as related environmental and health benefits in Finland. We used a disaggregative Delphi approach to examine the topic. Although frequently used in health-related research, Delp…
Dialogic journalism : how can journalists participate in the networks of social innovation?
2017
This thesis asks the question “What is the role of journalism in social innovation?” It explores how journalism is redefined when it engages in the creation of “the new” in society. The study analyzes four cases of journalism-related social innovation in two countries – the USA and Finland: a contentious national media event; crowdsourcing for legislation; a series of dialogic innovation workshops in Finland; an environment of data-based civic innovation in the USA. Social innovation is defined as innovations that work in meeting social goals. In literature and the contemporary discussion on the crisis of journalism, innovation is required to restore journalisms’ legitimacy and financial su…
Sauvakävelijä Iranista : tapaustutkimus iranilaisnaisen elämästä, maahanmuutosta ja liikkumisesta
2015
Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tapaustutkimuksena, jossa käytettiin hermeneutiikkaan perustuvaa tie…
"Se, että halutaan yhessä toimia, sillä on suuri merkitys" : tutkimus kansalaislähtöisestä Tuokiotuvasta ikääntyneiden hyvinvointipalvelujen tuottaja…
2016
Kansalaislähtöinen osallistuminen on vapaaehtoista, omaan kiinnostukseen perustuvaa. Osallistumista v…
Nörttikulttuurin identiteettikriisi : Gamergate, Comicsgate ja Star Wars poliittisten kiistojen näyttämöinä
2020
Nörttikulttuuri on identiteettikriisissä.
Characteristics and Actors of Impact Investing Ecosystem from the Perspective of Technology Startups
2023
Interest in impact investing within technology startup industry is in-creasing. Cross-Border M&A performance by Chinese firms : industry effect analysis
2017
Chinese firms participate in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (CBMA) in a constantly increasing rate. As China, the leading developing economy of the world keeps developing, the dynamics of value creation through CBMA change. The first result of this study indicates that Chinese acquirer companies gain significant cumula-tive average abnormal returns (CAARs) from CBMA. The second result of this study is that Chinese acquirer companies gain bigger CAARs from CBMA when the acquiring f…

The Role of Anticipatory Emotions and their Contagiousness in an IS Project
2020
The previous research has shown increasing interest in understanding anticipatory emotions and their contagion, which can happen in dyads or groups as well as in other settings in organizations. The role of anticipatory emotions and their behavioral effects remain unexplored in IS projects. To address the research gap, we conducted a qualitative and longitudinal case study in order to understand what arethe role and consequences of the anticipatory emotions in IS project work, and how their contagiousness emerges over time. Adopting a model of group emotional contagion as a theoretical lens provided us with an opportunity to explain the relationship between anticipatory emotions and emotion…
Dangerous relationships : biases in freshwater bioassessment based on observed to expected ratios
2018
Copyright by the Ecological Society of America The ecological assessment of freshwaters is currently primarily based on biological communities and the reference condition approach (RCA). In the RCA, the communities in streams and lakes disturbed by humans are compared with communities in reference conditions with no or minimal anthropogenic influence. The currently favored rationale is using selected community metrics for which the expected values (E) for each site are typically estimated from environmental variables using a predictive model based on the reference data. The proportional differences between the observed values (O) and E are then derived, and the decision rules for status ass…
