Parasitism, reproduction and sexual selection of roach, Rutilus rutilus L

2003

One of the main issues in immunological ecology is the role of immune defence in the evolution of life-history traits, i.e. the investment in reproduction at the cost of immune function. Moreover, theories of parasite-mediated sexual selection suggest…

IGF2BP3 Associates with Proliferative Phenotype and Prognostic Features in B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

2021

Simple Summary Although the prognosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has improved significantly during the past decades, ALL remains a major cause of pediatric cancer mortality, and more accurate risk-stratification is required. We investigated IGF2BP3, which has previously been associated with aggressive cancers, and found high and subtype-specific expression of IGF2BP3 in B-cell ALL, that was associated with good outcome in high-risk patients. Results suggest that IGF2BP3 could be useful to improve stratification and prognosis of B-ALL. Abstract The oncofetal protein insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3) belongs to a family of RNA-binding proteins involved i…

Pitkäaikainen kipu ja depressio : yhteyttä säätelevät tekijät

2004

Patrik Kuusinen tutki väitöskirjassaan Kelan maksamassa laitoskuntoutuksessa olleiden tuki- ja liikuntaelinten kivuista pitkään kärsineiden kokemusta kipuongelmastaan, itsestään ihmisenä ja tulevaisuudestaan sekä näiden käsitysten yhteyttä masennusoireisiin. Useimmilla potilailla niska- ja selkäkivut olivat kestäneet jo vuosia ilman mitään merkittävää helpottumista. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between chronic pain and depression. It was assumed that depression is a secondary reaction to pain and is mediated by how the patient perceives his/her life control and pain-induced personal interference and social interactions. These assumptions, derived from the mediat…

Inflammatory proteomics profiling for prediction of incident atrial fibrillation

2023

ObjectiveAtrial fibrillation (AF) has emerged as a common condition in older adults. Cardiovascular risk factors only explain about 50% of AF cases. Inflammatory biomarkers may help close this gap as inflammation can alter atrial electrophysiology and structure. This study aimed to determine a cytokine biomarker profile for this condition in the community using a proteomics approach.MethodsThis study uses cytokine proteomics in participants of the Finnish population-based FINRISK cohort studies 1997/2002. Risk models for 46 cytokines were developed to predict incident AF using Cox regressions. Furthermore, the association of participants’ C reactive protein (CRP) and N-terminal pro B-type n…

Dynamic Force Production Capacities Between Coronary Artery Disease Patients vs. Healthy Participants on a Cycle Ergometer

2020

Background: The force-velocity-power (FVP) profile is used to describe dynamic force production capacities, which is of great interest in training high performance athletes. However, FVP may serve a new additional tool for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. The aim of this study was to compare the FVP profile between two populations: CAD patients vs. healthy participants (HP). Methods: Twenty-four CAD patients (55.8 ± 7.1 y) and 24 HP (52.4 ± 14.8 y) performed two sprints of 8 s on a Monark cycle ergometer with a resistance corresponding to 0.4 N/kg × body mass for men and 0.3 N/kg × body mass for women. The theoretical maximal force (F 0) and velocity (V…

Physical activity and risk of venous thromboembolism: systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

2019

The inverse association between physical activity and arterial thrombotic disease is well established. Evidence on the association between physical activity and venous thromboembolism (VTE) is divergent. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of published observational prospective cohort studies evaluating the associations of physical activity with VTE risk. MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and manual search of relevant bibliographies were systematically searched until 26 February 2019. Extracted relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the maximum versus minimal amount of physical activity groups were pooled using random effects meta-analysis. Twelve article…
