The self-reported causes of sleepiness in shift-working tram and truck drivers

Identifying the causes of sleepiness in various safety-critical work environments is neces-sary for implementing more efficient fatigue management strategies. In transportation, little is known about drivers' own perceptions of these causes. Therefore, we instructed shift-working tram (n = 23) and long-haul truck drivers (n = 52) to report at the end of their shifts what made them sleepy if they felt so. These self-reports, measured on-duty sleepiness, and sleep amounts were recorded on every shift over a period of 2-3 weeks per driver. Tutkin taukoja venäjänkielisten henkilöiden suomenkielisessä puheessa. Aineistona on 32 Yleisten kielitutkintojen keskitason tasoarvion kolme ja neljä saaneiden henkilöiden puhenäytettä. Puhenäytteet kestävät noin kaksi minuuttia, ja ne ovat yksinpuheluita, joissa kokeen osallistuja puhuu annetusta aiheesta pienen valmisteluajan jälkeen. Tutkimukseen valikoituneista näytteistä suurimmassa osassa puhutaan liikunnan merkityksestä elämässä, mutta muistakin samantasoisista aiheista puhutaan. Tämän tutkielman tarkoitus oli selvittää, millä tavoin kielitaidon kehittyminen vaikuttaa toisella kielellä kirjoittamisen aikaisiin taukoihin. Pitkittäistutkimuksen tutkimuskysymyksiä olivat kuinka paljon edistyneet kielenoppijat pitävät taukoa kirjoittamisen aikana, missä kohdin tekstiä tauot sijaitsevat ja kuinka nämä tekijät muuttuvat kolmen vuoden aikana. Koehenkilöinä tutkimuksessa oli 14 suomenkielistä yliopisto-opiskelijaa, jotka opiskelivat pääaineenaan ruotsia. He kirjoittivat tekstejä kolmen vuoden ajan Topling-projektia varten. Educational reforms worldwide have resulted in schools increasingly incorporating open and flexible classroom designs that may provide possibilities to reduce sedentary behavior among students during lessons. Cross-sectional associations of classroom type on accelerometry assessed sedentary bout durations and sit-to-stand transitions were investigated in 191 third and fifth grade students recruited from one school with open learning spaces and two schools with conventional classrooms. Fluency is a commonly used descriptor of second language (L2) speaking skills. Unplanned and too frequent pauses, hesitations, and repetitions disrupt the flow of speech and can cause temporal irregularities at all levels of speech hierarchy, from syllable rate to phrasing. However, most studies that attempt to quantify fluency disregard pause locations. Vauhti- ja taukosujuvuus suomalaisessa viittomakielessä

Tämän maisterintutkielman aiheena on sujuvuus suomalaisessa viittomakielessä. Puhuttujen kielten osalta aihetta on tutkittu runsaasti, mutta viitottujen kielten puolella sitä on lähinnä sivuttu esimerkiksi kielitaitoon liittyen. Työ pilotoi sujuvuuden tutkimusta suomalaisessa viittomakielessä. Sujuvuutta käsitellään työssä rajatusti vain tuotetun viittomisen näkökulmasta, ja sitä mitataan käyttäen temporaalisista parametreista vauhtia ja taukoja. Aineistona on suomalaisen viittomakielen CFINSL-korpuksesta sekä vastaavasta oppijan korpuksesta kerättyä monologista viittomista yhteensä viideltä informantilta.
