Background: Severe, early-onset COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is characterized by a rapid decline in lung function at an early age with neutrophil over-activation. Roflumilast is approved as treatment for moderate and severe COPD at risk of exacerbation as add on therapy. MYCN sensitizes human neuroblastoma to apoptosis by HIPK2 activation through a DNA damage response.

Abstract MYCN amplification occurs in approximately 20% of human neuroblastomas and is associated with early tumor progression and poor outcome, despite intensive multimodal treatment. However, MYCN overexpression also sensitizes neuroblastoma cells to apoptosis. Thus, uncovering the molecular mechanisms linking MYCN to apoptosis might contribute to designing more efficient therapies for MYCN-amplified tumors. Here we show that MYCN-dependent sensitization to apoptosis requires activation of p53 and its phosphorylation at serine 46. Mesenchymal stem cells are often transplanted into inflammatory environments where they are able to survive and modulate host immune responses through a poorly understood mechanism. In this paper we analyzed the responses of MSC to IL-1β: a representative inflammatory mediator. Stromal cell-derived factor-1alpha (SDF-1alpha) is a potent chemoattractant for hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC), suggesting that it could play an important role during their migration within or to the bone marrow (BM). It is widely accepted that collagenolytic enzymes are required to facilitate the invasion and spread of tumour cells into host tissues. Immunohistochemical, zymographic and PCR analyses have produced evidence that the recently established human mammary carcinoma cell line, 8701-BC, expresses several metalloproteinases (MMP-1, -2, -9 and -10) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMP-1 and -2). Abstract Artesunate, the active agent from Artemisia annua L. used in the traditional Chinese medicine, is being applied as a first-line drug for malaria treatment, and trials are ongoing that include this drug in cancer therapy. Despite increasing interest in its therapeutic application, the mode of cell killing provoked by artesunate in human cells is unknown. Here, we show that artesunate is a powerful inducer of oxidative DNA damage, giving rise to formamidopyrimidine DNA glycosylase–sensitive sites and the formation of 8-oxoguanine and 1,N6-ethenoadenine. Involvement of protein kinase Cdelta in contact-dependent inhibition of growth in human and murine fibroblasts.

There is evidence that protein kinase C delta (PKCdelta) is a tumor suppressor, although its physiological role has not been elucidated so far. Since important anti-proliferative signals are mediated by cell-cell contacts we studied whether PKCdelta is involved in contact-dependent inhibition of growth in human (FH109) and murine (NIH3T3) fibroblasts. Cell-cell contacts were imitated by the addition of glutardialdehyde-fixed cells to sparsely seeded fibroblasts. Invasion of tumor cells into the extracellular matrix is an essential step in the formation of metastases in renal cancer. Cell adhesion molecules such as beta(1)-integrins, which bind to the RGD sequence (arginine-glycine-asparagine) and CD44 are involved in this process. BACKGROUND. Radiotherapy (RT) has occasionally been practiced in the treatment of optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM). Recently, stereotactic fractionated RT (SFRT) has been introduced as a tool with better precision for RT delivery. A comprehensive review was undertaken to provide more insight into this matter.
