Fungal biodiversity and in situ conservation in Italy
2011
A remarkable increase in knowledge of fungal biodiversity in Italy has occurred in the last five years. The authors report up-to-date numbers of fungi (Basidiomycota and Ascomycota) by regions together with distributional and ecological data on hypogeous fungi. Specific case studies such as alpine fungi, orchid mycorrhizas symbionts, invasive species, and the use of macrofungi as food by red squirrels are analyzed. In situ conservation strategies carried out on target species and/or taxonomic groups are also indicated.
Essential oil from the aerial parts of Centaurea cuneifolia Sibth. & Sm. and C. euxina Velen., two species growing wild in Bulgaria
2009
Abstract The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of Centaurea cuneifolia Sibth. & Sm. and Centaurea euxina Velen. from Bulgaria were extracted by hydrodistillation and were analyzed. The main components in C. cuneifolia were β-eudesmol (26.5%) and hexadecanoic acid (17.6%). The main components in C. euxina were hexadecanoic acid (20.3%), spathulenol (10.8%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.2%). The chemotaxonomic significances with respect to other previously studied species of the same sections ( Achrolopus and Phalolepis , respectively) are discussed.
Pachydema lopadusanorum n.sp. (Coleoptera Melolonthidae) from Lampedusa Island (Sicily Channel, Central Metditerranean Sea, Italy)
2018
In this paper the populations of Pachydema Castelnau, 1832 (Coleoptera Melolonthidae) living in Lampedusa Island (Sicily Channel, Central Mediterranean Sea, Italy), so far attributed to P. hirticollis (Fabricius, 1787) of North Africa, are examined. The comparison of the main morphological characters between these two populations allowed to attribute those of Lampedusa to a new species that is described in the present work. Faunistic and biological observations on these species are provided.
Typification of the Presl’s name Calamintha canescens (Lamiaceae)
2021
Calamintha canescens is a taxon described in the “Flora Sicula” by K. B. Presl (1826), following the visit made to Sicily a few years earlier (March-July 1817). In the protologue Presl does not report any data on the distribution in Sicily of this taxon that will be almost completely forgotten in later floristic works. Only Nyman (1881) and later Šilić (1979) consider it as a variety respectively of Calamintha nepeta (L.) Savi and C. glandulosa (Req.) Benth. Following the review of a group of critical European taxa belonging to the genus Clinopodium L., lately Melnikov (2016) recovers the ancient taxon Calamintha canescens C. Presl and transfers it to the genus Clinopodium L. Also, the auth…
Patterns and causes of incongruence between plastid and nuclear Senecioneae (Asteraceae) phylogenies
2010
One of the longstanding questions in phylogenetic systematics is how to address incongruence among phylogenies obtained from multiple markers and how to determine the causes. This study presents a detailed analysis of incongruent patterns between plastid and ITS/ETS phylogenies of Tribe Senecioneae (Asteraceae). This approach revealed widespread and strongly supported incongruence, which complicates conclusions about evolutionary relationships at all taxonomic levels. The patterns of incongruence that were resolved suggest that incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) and/or ancient hybridization are the most likely explanations. These phenomena are, however, extremely difficult to distinguish beca…
Connectedness and connectivity of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas across country borders in the European Union
2012
Abstract We studied the spatial connectedness of Natura 2000 site boundaries and the functional connectivity of the Natura 2000 network across the 34 terrestrial borders of the European Union. Connectivity was measured by the dispersal success of 192 reptile, amphibian, invertebrate and plant species from Annex II of the European Union Habitats Directive, based on the presence of same species on both sides of the borders. Connectedness and connectivity varied greatly between state borders, with good and bad examples found in all parts of the European Union. Connectedness and connectivity were positively correlated. However, a few outlying examples showed that good connectedness is not neces…
Variability of the Level of Development of Functopnal Urban Areas
2018
Miejskie obszary funkcjonalne mają istotne znaczenie w realizacji zarówno Krajowej Polityki Miejskiej 2023, jak i terytorialnej polityki rozwoju. Celem badania jest określenie poziomu rozwoju obszarów funkcjonalnych miast wojewódzkich Polski. Badania przeprowadzono z wykorzystaniem metody taksonomicznej w ujęciu dynamicznym obejmującym okres 2005-2015. Podstawę wyznaczenia wielkości taksonomicznych stanowił zestaw wskaźników diagnostycznych ujętych w trzech wymiarach rozwoju: społecznym, gospodarczym i środowiskowym. W ramach badania została podjęta ocena poziomu rozwoju miast centralnych MOF oraz oddzielnie miast i gmin ich otoczenia. Dodatkowo określono poziom rozwoju każdego z wymiarów r…
Changes in the standard of living of chosen countries that joined the European Union after 2004
2018
Changes in the Standard of Living in the EU Member States between 2005 and 2012, with Particular Emphasis on Poland and the Czech Republic
2016
This chapter is dedicated to the issues relating to changes in the standard of living recorded in 25 EU countries, in particular in Poland and the Czech Republic. Given the availability of comparable and relevant statistical data, the standard of living was studied between 2005 and 2012. The study was conducted with the use of taxonomic method – Hellwig’s synthetic measure. The results indicated that in 2012 Poland and the Czech Republic recorded a growth in the standard of living compared to 2005. Between 2005 and 2008, Poland was in the group of countries with a relatively low standard of living. It was not until the 2012, that it entered the group of countries with a moderate standard of…
Taxonomical methods in safety analyses
2016
In the article chosen mathematical methods used to the safety analysis of district were shown. Analysis of threats of the district consists of the sum of fragmentary analyses of individual communes in the district. Examples of analyses of threats based on taxonomical methods were presented. Among many important problems of modelling, the most essential are the relationships between variables. The selection of variables (features) depends on the particular case. We have provided comments of the modeling of complex problems classification issues. Algorithm is shown and the results of the analyzes. Pointed to the usefulness of this type of analysis in the modeling threat process. Presented res…
