A new species of Silene sect. Dipterosperma (Caryophyllaceae) from Sicily

2012

Silene kemoniana, a new species of the section Dipterosperma from NW Sicily, is described and illustrated. It is a therophyte that occurs in mountains near Palermo, where it grows on Mesozoic limestones in xerophilous garigues. Its relationships with S. colorata and allied species are also examined. A key of the species belonging to sect. Dipterosperma is provided. Se describe e ilustra Silene kemoniana, una nueva especie del NW de Sicilia perteneciente a la sección Dipterosperma. Late Quaternary marine ostracods of the Basque Basin (S Bay of Biscay): taxonomy and distribution

2018

Late Quaternary taxonomy and ecologic and age distributions of ostracods from the Basque Basin (S Bay of Biscay) are described. More than forty-four thousands ostracod specimens have been obtained from one hundred surface samples and core samples from six cores located in shelf and upper bathyal depths and other infrabathyal core as comparative deep reference. A total of 155 species have been taxonomically described, belonging to 67 genera. Most characteristic species (123) have been SEM figured, and ecologic-geographic distributions and ages have been provided for all species. The resulting database will be a useful help for palaeoceanographic and palaeoclimatologic studies of the region.

Cytotaxonomical investigation on Allium paniculatum ssp. exaltatum (Alliaceae) from Cyprus.

2004

Arare Allium endemic to Cyprus island, known as A. paniculatum subsp. exaltatum, is here examined. Relevant features in its morphology, caryology and leaf anatomy emphasize the marked taxonomic isolation of this taxon and allow it to be treated as a distinct species, proposed as Allium exaltatum. It is an exaploid plant (2n=48), probably arisen out of allopolyploidy and morphologically related only to some Middle East taxa.
