The process of envisioning the future is central to teachers’ identity construction, but different environments create distinct sociocultural conditions for the process. This qualitative study drawing on visual-textual methods compares Finnish and Brazilian student teachers’ desired and feared professional futures. Two different perspectives on future identities were detected: a desire for status and a desire for meaningfulness. When studying music, skills are often practised with a teacher, face-to-face, in a classroom. What are the experiences of classroom teacher trainees when music teaching becomes asynchronous, i.e., an individually completed online course? The purpose of the study is to explore physical education (PE) students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) and the meaningful learning experiences during the SEL course. In the teaching profession, understanding SEL is important because the guidance of learning and group dynamics is essentially an interactive social process.
