Essential oil components of orange peels and antimicrobial activity

In this study, the orange peel of 12 cultivars of Citrus sinensis from central-eastern Sicily was employed to obtain essential oils and extracts. The ones were extracted through steam distillation, the others through extraction in hexane. Chemical constituents were evaluated in terms of qualitative and quantitative analyses by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Fifty-four components were identified in the steam essential oils and 44 in the extracts. In all the cultivars, the main component is d-limonene (73.9–97%); discrete percentages of linalool, geraniol and nerol were also found. Giuseppe Samonà e la “spina dorsale” di Gibellina Nuova

Nel 1970 Giuseppe Samonà coordina il gruppo di progettazione formato da Vittorio Gregotti, Gianni Pirrone e Alberto Samonà per il Progetto del Centro civico, commerciale e culturale di Gibellina Nuova. Del piano è realizzato il municipio e poi, rielaborato e in altro luogo, il teatro. I monumenti, fondati su un asse pedonale in quota connesso a un suolo artificiale articolato, esprimono l’unità architettura – urbanistica e anticipano, per certi versi, una riflessione successiva del Direttore dello IUAV sulla dialettica fra urbano e rurale.

A partire dai '50 gli architetti hanno prestato attenzione alla kasbah delle città islamiche. Alcuni edifici molto recenti danno prova che questo interesse è tutt'altro che esaurito. Il museo a Leon di Mansila & Tunón così come alcuni edifici della Sejima e di OMA sono in realtà ulteriori esercizi sul tema – legato alla kasbah - affrontato dall'Ospedale di Venezia di Le Corbusier e dall'Unità di abitazione orizzontale di Libera e i progetti e gli edifici del Team X. The Inner Life of a Robot in Human-Robot Teaming

Giving the robot a 'human' inner life, such as the capability to think about itself and to understand what the other team members are doing, would increase the efficiency of trustworthy interactions with the other members of the team. Our long-Term research goal is to provide the robot with a computational model of inner life helping the robot to reason about itself, its capabilities, its environment and its teammates. Robot inner speech is a part of the research goal. In this paper, we summarize the results obtained in this direction.

Chemical Composition and Antibacterial Potential of Artemisia arborescens L. Essential Oil

This study was undertaken to characterize the essential oil (EO) of Artemisia arborescens growing wild in Sicily. EO, extracted by steam distillation, was examined for its chemical composition and for its capability to inhibit some food-borne pathogen bacteria. A total of 43 compounds (13 monoterpene hydrocarbons, 14 oxygenated monoterpenes, 10 sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, three oxygenated sesquiterpenes and less amount of other three compounds), which account 93.73% of the total oil, were identified by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. This study examined an intervention that links task significance (one’s job has a positive impact on other people) to burnout symptoms of professionals working in organizations for individuals with intellectual disability. Professionals assigned to the experimental condition participated in teams designed to enhance the positive impact of their work on others (task significance). To do so, teams focused on a task to improve the quality of life of individuals with intellectual disability. Leadership is a group feature that directly impacts on team identification. Effective leaders are especially capable of fostering group cohesiveness and promoting efficacy in goal attainment. We assessed the relationship between transactional and transformational leadership style, team identification, and leader self-sacrifice.
