Dimensional analysis of pore scale and field scale immiscible displacement

A basic re-examination of the traditional dimensional analysis of microscopic and macroscopic multiphase flow equations in porous media is presented. We introduce a ‘macroscopic capillary number’\(\overline {Ca}\) which differs from the usual microscopic capillary number Ca in that it depends on length scale, type of porous medium and saturation history. The macroscopic capillary number\(\overline {Ca}\) is defined as the ratio between the macroscopic viscous pressure drop and the macroscopic capillary pressure.\(\overline {Ca}\) can be related to the microscopic capillary number Ca and the LeverettJ-function. Precision measurement of the structure function ratiosF 2 He /F 2 D ,F 2 C /F 2 D andF 2 Ca /F 2 D

We present the structure function ratiosF2He/F2D,F2C/F2D andF2Ca/F2D measured in deep inelastic muon-nucleus scattering at an incident muon momentum of 200 GeV. The kinematic range 0.0035<x<0.65 and 0.5<Q2<90 GeV2 is covered. At lowx the three ratios are significantly smaller than unity and the size of the depletion grows with decreasingx and increasing mass numberA. At intermediatex the ratios show an enhancement of about 2% above unity for C/D and Ca/D, possibly less for He/D. There are indications of someQ2 dependence in the Ca/D data. The integrals of the structure function differencesF2A−F2D are discussed.

TRACKING WITH THE ALEPH TIME PROJECTION CHAMBER

The tracking performance of the ALEPH time projection chamber (TPC) has been studied using the data taken during the LEP (Large Electron-Positron Collider) running periods in 1989 and 1990. After careful correction of residual distortions and optimization of coordinate reconstruction algorithms, a single coordinate resolution of 173 mu m in the azimuthal and 740 mu m in the longitudinal direction is achieved. This results in a momentum resolution for the TPC alone of Delta p/p/sup 2/=0.0012 (GeV/c)/sup -1/. In combination with the ALEPH inner tracking chamber (ITC), a total momentum resolution of Delta p/p/sup 2/=0.0008 (GeV/c)/sup -1/, close to the design specifications, is reached. >

Fractional Tajimi–Kanai model for simulating earthquake ground motion

The ground acceleration is usually modeled as a filtered Gaussian process. The most common model is a Tajimi–Kanai (TK) filter that is a viscoelastic Kelvin–Voigt unit (a spring in parallel with a dashpot) carrying a mass excited by a white noise (acceleration at the bedrock). Based upon the observation that every real material exhibits a power law trend in the creep test, in this paper it is proposed the substitution of the purely viscous element in the Kelvin Voigt element with the so called springpot that is an element having an intermediate behavior between purely elastic (spring) and purely viscous (dashpot) behavior ruled by fractional operator. Non-stationary spectral moments of base excited MDOF systems

The paper deals with the evaluation of non-stationary spectral moments of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) line systems subjected to seismic excitations. The spectral moments of the response are evaluated in incremental form solution by means of an unconditionally stable step-by-step procedure. As an application, the statistics of the largest peak of the response are also evaluated.

In this paper two-dimensional Boussinesq and dispersive water waves equations are investigated in exact solutions. The Exp-function method is used for seeking exact solutions of the equations through symbolic computation.

In this study a complete set of dosimetric data for the GammaMed high dose rate (HDR) 12i and Plus 192 Ir sources are presented. These data have been calculated by means of the Monte Carlo simulation code GEANT3. Absolute dose rate distributions in water are presented as conventional two dimensional (2D) Cartesian look-up tables, and in the TG43 formalism.
