Automated quality control protocol for MR spectra of brain tumors.
2008
Item does not contain fulltext eTUMOUR (http://www.etumour.net/) is acquiring a large database of brain tumor (1)H MR spectra to develop automated pattern recognition methods and decision support system (DSS) for tumor diagnosis. Development of accurate pattern-recognition algorithms requires spectra undistorted by artifacts, low signal-to-noise, or broad lines. eTUMOUR currently uses panels of expert spectroscopists to subjectively grade spectra as being acceptable or unacceptable. Automated quality control (QC) would be more satisfactory for several reasons: 1) to provide a reproducible objective classification of spectrum quality; 2) for use within the future DSS to prevent misdiagnosis …
Paternity Testing Commission of the International Society of Forensic Genetics: recommendations on genetic investigations in paternity cases
2003
The International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG) has established a Paternity Testing Commission (PTC) with the purpose of formulating international recommendations concerning genetic investigations in paternity testing. The PTC recommends that paternity testing be performed in accordance with the ISO 17025 standards. The ISO 17025 standards are general standards for testing laboratories and the PTC offers explanations and recommendations concerning selected areas of special importance to paternity testing. # 2002 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. Randomized controlled trial of postoperative exercise rehabilitation program after lumbar spine fusion: study protocol
2012
Abstract Background Lumbar spine fusion (LSF) effectively decreases pain and disability in specific spinal disorders; however, the disability rate following surgery remains high. This, combined with the fact that in Western countries the number of LSF surgeries is increasing rapidly it is important to develop rehabilitation interventions that improve outcomes. Methods/design In the present RCT-study we aim to assess the effectiveness of a combined back-specific and aerobic exercise intervention for patients after LSF surgery. One hundred patients will be randomly allocated to a 12-month exercise intervention arm or a usual care arm. The exercise intervention will start three months after su…
Virtual darwinian drug design: QSAR inverse problem, virtual combinatorial chemistry, and computational screening.
2001
The generation of diversity and its further selection by an external system is a common mechanism for the evolution of the living species and for the current drug design methods. This assumption allows us to label the methods based on generation and selection of molecular diversity as "Darwinian" ones, and to distinguish them from the structure-based, structure-modulation approaches. An example of a Darwinian method is the inverse QSAR. It consists of the computational generation of candidate chemical structures and their selection according to a previously established QSAR model. New trends in the field of combinatorial chemical syntheses comprise the concepts of virtual combinatorial synt…
Top physics studies at the LHC in the standard model and beyond with the ATLAS detector
2009
The LHC will be a Top quark factory, producing large numbers of Top quarks even at the initial low luminosities. This will enable a rich program of Top quark Physics to be explored, both within the Standard Model and using Top quarks as probes of Physics Beyond the Standard Model. Recent studies from ATLAS will be presented, including prospects for the measurements of the production of Top pairs and single Top production, angular correlations in the Top decay, and the precision measurement of the Top quark mass. The search for Physics beyond the Standard Model will be illustrated with searches for rare Top decays involving Flavour Changing Neutral Currents, and the reconstruction of tt-bar …
Top mass reconstruction in ATLAS
2011
The top-quark mass is a fundamental parameter of the Standard Model. After the discovery of the top quark, the measurements of its properties were of substantial interest. Within the framework of the SM, the top-quark mass can be used in combination with other electroweak precision measurements to constrain the mass of the yet unobserved Higgs boson.\nIn the new era of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the first top quarks have been produced in Europe in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7~TeV. The top-quark mass measurement of ATLAS in the so called lepton+jets channel with 35~pb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity will be presented. In this early data-taking period the larges…
Performance Comparison of modified modulation Techniques for Quasi-Z-Source Converters
2020
The single-stage converters represent an innovation in the field of power electronics thanks their features. Aim of this work consists in the improvement of the performances of quasi-Z-Source converters by adopting a modified modulation technique, which is based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO). The results in terms of voltage stress and harmonic content are compared with those obtained with conventional techniques, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed modulation scheme.
Residential Exposure to Outdoor Air Pollution during Pregnancy and Anthropometric Measures at Birth in a Multicenter Cohort in Spain
2011
Background: A growing body of research suggests that prenatal exposure to air pollution may be harmful to fetal development. We assessed the association between exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and anthropometric measures at birth in four areas within the Spanish Children’s Health and Environment (INMA) mother and child cohort study. Methods: Exposure to ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and benzene was estimated for the residence of each woman (n = 2,337) for each trimester and for the entire pregnancy. Outcomes included birth weight, length, and head circumference. The association between residential outdoor air pollution exposure and birth outcomes was assessed with linear regress…

The impact of study design and diagnostic approach in a large multi-centre ADHD study. Part 1: ADHD symptom patterns
2011
Contains fulltext : 96439.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) BACKGROUND: The International Multi-centre ADHD Genetics (IMAGE) project with 11 participating centres from 7 European countries and Israel has collected a large behavioural and genetic database for present and future research. Behavioural data were collected from 1068 probands with the combined type of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD-CT) and 1446 'unselected' siblings. The aim was to analyse the IMAGE sample with respect to demographic features (gender, age, family status, and recruiting centres) and psychopathological characteristics (diagnostic subtype, symptom frequencies, age at symptom detection, and com…
