In response to the growing consumer demand for fresh cheese in summer, this investigation was aimed to evaluate the chemical and microbiological characteristics of sheep’s milk and cheese produced in Sicily in the hot summer months. A total of 810 bulk milk samples collected from 17 farms rearing ewes of the Valle del Belice breed were analysed for chemical composition, somatic cell count, total bacterial count and clotting parameters. <p>In this work we focus on experimental studies of polymer-nanocomposites intended for passive protection of civil structures. The material consists of a polyurea-matrix enhanced by different quantities of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Several tensile and cyclic tests are performed to evaluate and characterize the mechanical behaviour of this new material. Furthermore, we subject the material to accelerated thermal aging and study its performance deterioration which is fairly unknown. The results on the unaged specimens are intuitive and indicate that an arbitrary amount of CNTs may result in suboptimal performance. Le situazioni di impatto e la dinamica di ciclista e pedone sono le informazioni fondamentali per lo sviluppo di soluzioni efficaci per migliorare la protezione del pedone e del ciclista in caso di urto con autovetture. La casistica degli incidenti a Palermo, negli ultimi anni, avvenuti su strade urbane (84%) che coinvolgono adolescenti (6,4%), mostra che i ciclisti hanno in genere una posizione di impatto superiore rispetto al pedone, con una quota maggiore di lesioni per urti nella zona del parabrezza. Genome-wide detection of copy-number variations in local cattle breeds

The aim of the present study was to identify copy-number variations (CNVs) in Cinisara (CIN) and Modicana (MOD) cattle breeds on the basis of signal intensity (logR ratio) and B allele frequency of each marker, using Illumina’s BovineSNP50K Genotyping BeadChip. The CNVs were detected with the PennCNV and SVS 8.7.0 software and were aggregated into CNV regions (CNVRs). PennCNV identified 487 CNVs in CIN that aggregated into 86 CNVRs, and 424 CNVs in MOD that aggregated into 81 CNVRs. SVS identified a total of 207 CNVs in CIN that aggregated into 39 CNVRs, and 181 CNVs in MOD that aggregated into 41 CNVRs. Effects of daylight and artificial light on melatonin suppression in educational environment.

An analysis of the characteristics of daylight in a scholastic environment was carried out by comparing SPDs and CCTs of the natural source (sky) during typical winter days with contemporaneous measurements of spectral irradiances and CCTs detected at the eyes level. Data obtained from these measurements together with those detected with artificial light, were used to evaluate the effects on melatonin suppression during the day according to the procedure proposed by Rea et al [2].
