L’anfiteatro di Sabratha venne indagato nel 1924-26 da Renato Bartoccini, interessato in seguito da pochi interventi di scavo e restauro, è rimasto inedito. This article presents an experimental programme on reinforced concrete beams retrofitted with steel angles and pre-stressed stainless steel ribbons to increase their flexural strength and ductility. Two different configurations of the steel ribbon were designed, and two companion specimens for each type considered were subjected to a four-point bending test to facilitate a direct comparison in the analysis of the effectiveness of the retrofitting technique. The validation of an analytical model recently proposed for evaluation of the shear capacity in Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams containing multiple inclination of transverse stirrups is presented. The model is a suitable extension of that currently proposed in Eurocode 2 for the evaluation of the shear resistance, and it is derived by means of the the variable-inclination stressfield theory based on Nielsen’s plastic approach. In the last two decades, the use of pumice as lightweight aggregate for concrete in structural applications has been the object of different studies. The aim was to find out if pumice can be an alternative to ordinary lightweight aggregate. The present paper is framed in this context. Here, a study is presented showing the use of pumice for making lightweight concrete units for masonry members. Through the paper, the formulation of a mix design for lightweight concrete is proposed. This study presents the retrofit acoustic dq1esign of the Italian theatre “Cavallino Bianco”. In its historical configuration, the hall had a curved roof with a pressed-plant fiber ceiling, which was demolished and replaced with a wooden roof without a false ceiling, leading to an increase in volume and a worsening of the reverberation time. This study proposed the realization of a wave ceiling and the application of sound-absorbing and reflecting panels on the walls, which have already been implemented. The dissolution of gypsum of Disueri reservoir left bank

Results of a laboratory research programme on the rate of dissolution of selenitic gypsum are reported and discussed. The tested gypsum samples have been recovered from boreholes drilled in a thick layer outcropping on the left bank of Disueri reservoir located near Gela in Sicily. The tests carried out demonstrate that the rate of dissolution Rd depends essentially upon the velocity v of water flowing over the surface of the gypsum. Values of Rd range from 0.94 to 3 kg/(m2 • day) for v values from 0.05 to 0.20 m/s.
