Gingivitis
2010
Gingival inflammation is caused by bacterial plaque (dental biofilm) that accumulates daily on the teeth. Results in redness, slight swelling, or "puffiness" of the gums and bleeding on tooth brushing. Treatment involves thorough professional tooth cleaning and effective daily removal of dental plaque by tooth brushing and cleaning between the teeth. Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (NUG) is a more serious condition that is mainly found in developing countries associated with people with severe malnutrition or HIV/AIDS with low CD4 T-cell counts.

Evidence of field cancerization of oral squamous cell carcinoma: a case report
2014
Objectives. From 1953 (1) the term “field cancerization” has been used to describe an “increased risk of cancer de- velopment in the entire upper aerodigestive tract due to multiple genetic abnormalities in the whole region after pro- longed exposure to carcinogen” (2). This phenomenon implies the occurrence of multiple primary tumors/potentially malignant disorders as results of cell-molecular aberrations in different independent sites (polyclonal theory) or from the same site through widespread expansion or later spread across the mucosa (monoclonal theory). Case report. A 63-year-old female patient referred in June of 2014 for exophytic/ulcerative lesion in the hard palate. At the same t…
Osteonecrosi dei mascellari associata a bisfosfonati, denosumab e farmaci anti-angiogenetici nei pazienti oncologici e osteoporotici: prevenzione dent…
2013
Obiettivi. Proporre protocolli di gestione odontoiatrica per il paziente che assume o che assumerà farmaci (per esempio bisfosfonati, denosumab e anti-angiogenetici) correlati all’insorgenza di osteonecrosi dei mascellari (OsteoNecrosis of the Jaws, ONJ). Materiali e metodi. Risultati e conclus…
Hastening of wound healing of mucosa by means of aminoacids combined to sodium hyaluronate after oral biopsy: an open trial.
2014
Sodium hyaluronate has been widely used in order to promote wound healing in oral cavity for its anti-inflammatory effects. Aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate the efficacy of aminoacids added to topical sodium hyaluronate, in minor oral surgery. After surgery by means of Quantic molecular resonance scalpel, in 27 patients a gel with sodium hyaluronate has been applied directly on the surgical wound, in order to favorite healing by secondary intention. Furthermore, gel has been applied 3-4times/day, after meals and oral hygiene. Hemostatic effect, edema and pain symptoms by VAS (Visual Analogue Scale;0-100), and clinical healing (full, partial, absent) have been evaluated at T#1(2hrs…
Prevalence of Spinal Muscular Atrophy in the Era of Disease-Modifying Therapies: An Italian Nationwide Survey.
2022
ObjectiveSpinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the SMN1 gene. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of SMA and treatment prescription in Italy.MethodsAn online survey was distributed to 36 centers identified by the Italian government as referral centers for SMA. Data on the number of patients with SMA subdivided according to age, type,SMN2copy number, and treatment were collected.ResultsOne thousand two hundred fifty-five patients with SMA are currently followed in the Italian centers with an estimated prevalence of 2.12/100,000. Of the 1,255, 284 were type I, 470 type II, 467 type III, and 15 type IV with estimated prevalence of 0…

Short and middle term effects of hypocaloric low carbohydrate diet vs hypocaloric Mediterranean diet on endothelial function in obese subjects
2008
Adequate nutritional treatment is required to address the problem of increasing prevalence of obesity in Western countries. The Mediterranean diet style is now acknowledged to have large scientific evidences in terms of cardiovascular prevention. However, many popular diets are diffusing also as self-prescribed treatments. Among those, the efficacy of low-carbohydrate diets (also known as Atkins’ diet in its most popular variety) has been addressed by some investigations. It is generally concluded that the low-carbohydrate diet is able to induce a greater weight loss, at least in the middle term, and a better serum lipid profile than the conventional diet. In this longitudinal, randomised, …
