Laura Leppämäki rakentaa väitöskirjatutkimuksessaan kokonaiskuvaa tekijänoikeuskeskustelusta, joka on muodostunut hyvin kriittiseksi vallitsevaa järjestelmää kohtaan. Caraway seeds contain between 0.5–7% essential oil, rich in monoterpenes that have a characteristic aroma and chemical properties. Caraway oil has several bioactive compounds that are of industrial importance, particularly for pharmaceutical and health care products. Carvone and limonene are the main terpenes present in caraway oil, which along with some unique fatty acids (i.e. petroselinic acid) determine caraway (Carum carvi L.) oil quality. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on tutkia Dirichlet'n ongelmaa todennäköisyysteorian ja peliteorian näkökulmasta. Osoittautuu, että käytössä olevan alueen reuna vaikuttaa siihen, onko olemassa Dirichlet'n ongelman ratkaisevaa funktiota, joka saavuttaa oikeat reuna-arvot jatkuvasti. Tutkielmassa määritellään joukon reunasäännöllisyys jatkuva-aikaisen satunnaisliikkeen avulla. Käyttökelpoinen ja riittävä ehto reunapisteen säännöllisyydelle on Poincarén kartioehto. Tässä työssä näytetään myös Wienerin kriteerio, joka on riittävä ja välttämätön ehto reunapisteen säännöllisyydelle. Swinholides are 42-carbon ring polyketides with a 2-fold axis of symmetry. They are potent cytotoxins that disrupt the actin cytoskeleton. Swinholides were discovered from the marine sponge Theonella sp. and were long suspected to be produced by symbiotic bacteria. Misakinolide, a structural variant of swinholide, was recently demonstrated to be the product of a symbiotic heterotrophic proteobacterium. Here, we report the production of swinholide A by an axenic strain of the terrestrial cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. strain UHCC 0450. Bacterial antibiotic resistance is often a part of mobile genetic elements that move from one bacterium to another. By interfering with the horizontal movement and the maintenance of these elements, it is possible to remove the resistance from the population. Here, we show that a so-called plasmid-dependent bacteriophage causes the initially resistant bacterial population to become susceptible to antibiotics. However, this effect is efficiently countered when the system also contains a predator that feeds on bacteria. Suomalaisessa sanomalehtijournalismissa uutisideat ja -materiaali tulevat yhä lisääntyvässä määrin toimitusten ulkopuolelta. Maakuntalehtien journalistien tehtävänä on välittää lehtensä lukijoille oleellista ja tärkeää tietoa siitä, mitä lukijoiden ympärillä tapahtuu. Siksi on tärkeää tutkia, millä keinoilla ja periaatteilla journalistit arvioivat ja muokkaavat tätä ulkopuolisilta tahoilta tullutta aineistoa ja kuinka he arvioivat sen julkaisukelpoisuutta ja -tärkeyttä.
