Paratextual Prometheus. Digital Paratexts on YouTube, Vimeo and Prometheus Transmedia Campaign
2015
The object of this article is to map correspondences between the literacy of books and the literacy of online video platforms, in order to create common ground between both media and assist transmedia storytellers in the task of exploring video platforms with in-depth knowledge of each textual element surrounding video content. The article proposes a comprehensive categorization and typification of surrounding information in the standard video pages of YouTube and Vimeo, using Gerard Genette’s theory of paratexts as a basic framework. The analysis found that the interplay between paratextual elements, the audience feedback and the absence of endorsement from authors to paratexts created by …
Lo ZEN e l'arte della narrazione dei luoghi
2011
This paper aims at analysing a very well-known Italian neighbourhood, which is located in Palermo and called Zen. This neighbourhood has often been described as a clear example of the worst and most disgraced urban landscapes in Italy, as mass media and local stakeholders shaped its image for their own uses. Through a series of interviews, on-the-spot inspections and the use of other qualitative methodologies, the final goal of this paper is to subvert traditional representations of this place and enforce a plural way of describing it, using research techniques that might position the researcher and his or her own description inside a larger framework. Would geographers, social scientists a…

Magic beans : a material package for teaching English through storytelling and creative drama in primary school
2013

Ali Smitas romānu “Rudens” un “Ziema” uzmanīga lasīšana atklāj, ka Smita patiesu not…
Wine and Terroir(s) : an Identity between Myth and reality
2020
To speak about wine is obviously a sign of socialization, but is also a trend, which is part of the global interest in gastronomy. In order to build up discourses on wine, which heavily draw on marketing communication, referring to AOP and AOC labels and classifications does seem to be necessary but not sufficient, as the notion of ‘terroir’ has become prominent in many discourses and on a variety of media. The crave for authenticity and proximity permeates gastronomy and oenology markets, and the idea of terroir alone seems capable of just responding to this crave. Terroir can be seen as a warrant of identity offered by wine growers and makers, but is also demanded by consumers in quest of…

Integrating Social Skills in Task-Oriented 3D IVA
2005
This paper presents a set of mechanisms oriented to incorporate social information into the decision taking of task-oriented 3DIVA. The aim of this approach is to integrate collaborative skills in different character's roles (seller/buyer, worker, pedestrian, etc.) in order to enhance its behavioral animation. The collective intelligence expected in this kind of multi-character domains (e.g. storytelling, urban simulation, interactive games, etc.) requires agents able to dialogue/interact with other characters, to autonomously group/ungroup (according to their goals), or to distribute tasks and coordinate their execution for solving possible conflicts. The social model implemented follows t…
The Book Between Media Convergence, Media Specificity, and Diverse Reading Communities in Present-Day US Culture
2019
Drawing on empirical studies and statistical analyses of how digitization has restructured the American publishing industry during the last decade, Christoph Blasi considers the book’s current position in media culture from the perspective of book studies. He surveys the latest research on the development of print book production, on the market competition between printed books and e-books, and on the differences between screen and print reading. Noting that communication practices and circuits of book value creation have changed in the wake of digitization, Blasi also highlights the significant function that print books possess in the contemporary media ecology—both as part of transmedia s…
