Sepsis in head and neck cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and radiation: literature review and consensus
2015
Abstract: The reporting of infection/sepsis in chemo/radiation-treated head and neck cancer patients is sparse and the problem is underestimated. A multidisciplinary group of head and neck cancer specialists from Italy met with the aim of reaching a consensus on a clinical definition and management of infections and sepsis. The Delphi appropriateness method was used for this consensus. External expert reviewers then evaluated the conclusions carefully according to their area of expertise. The paper contains seven clusters of statements about the clinical definition and management of infections and sepsis in head and neck cancer patients, which had a consensus. Furthermore, it offers a revie…
Role of thyroid hormones in burning mouth syndrome. Systematic review
2022
Background: Burning mouth syndrome is an idiopathic condition characterized by burning pain in a normalappearing oral mucosa lasting at least four to six months. In the case of secondary burning mouth syndrome is associated with local or systemic factors (such as thyroid disorders) that can cause these symptoms. The aim of this review was to study the relationship between thyroid disorders and burning mouth syndrome. Material and Methods: The present study followed the PRISMA guidelines. An electronic search strategy was developed for PubMed/Medline, Scopus and Cochrane. The following combination of keywords and Boolean operators were used: Thyroid AND burning mouth; Thyroid AND burning mou…
Synthesis of various natural 8,12-elemanolides from artemisin
1989
Abstract This paper describes the chemical transformations of artemisin into various natural 8,12-elemanolides.
Artemisinin: Tentative Mechanism of Action and Resistance
2016
The sesquiterpene lactones constitute a large class of secondary plant metabolites, which carry a‑methylene‑g‑lactone groups as common structural element and display a number of bioactivities. Every year, 1–2 million people living in the tropics and subtropics die of malaria. Lactone artemisinin is the most effective treatment vs. malaria, the most infectious disease in the world today. Artemisinins are derived from extracts of sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) and are well established for the treatment of malaria, e.g., highly drug-resistant strains. They resulted in one of the most significant advances in the treatment of malaria since the discovery and first use of quinine over 300 years …
Synthesis and biological evaluation of antimalarial and antileukemic activity of new C-10 modified artemisinin derivatives
2021
Abstract Several non-acetal artemisinin derivatives were synthesized and their antimalarial activity against chloroquine-resistant parasites as well as their antileukemic activity were investigated. The azide 10 was proved to have slightly better activity than the current antimalarial drugs such as artesunate and chloroquine. In addition, the azide 10 and the aldehyde 7 were found to be effective in decreasing cell proliferation in leukemia cells.
13C NMR spectra of eudesmanolides I—eudesman-12,6-olides
1987
The 13C NMR spectra of 26 eudesmanolides of natural and synthetic origin have been measured, including the naturally occurring sesquiterpene lactones artemisin, torrentin, rothin-A and rothin-B and several semi-synthetic eudesman-12,6-olides obtained from artemisin. The chemical shift values of the different compounds are compared and the effects of the substituents are discussed.
Sesquiterpene lactones from Artemisia lucentica
1997
Abstract The aerial parts of Artemisia lucentica yielded, in addition to several known compounds, a bicyclic monoterpene ketone, two germacranolides, an eudesmanolide, a 10- epi neudesmanolide, a 2-norelemanolide and three bisabolene derivatives. The stereochemistry of a germacranolide, described as 2α-hydroxyartemorin in a previous investigation of the species, has now been corrected and the compound has been renamed lucentolide.
Sesquiterpene lactones from iranian Artemisia species
1993
Abstract The aerial parts of Artemisia turcomanica and A. deserti yielded two new germacranolides, a new guaianolide, and several known mono- and sesquiterpenes.
Sesquiterpene lactones fromArtemisia barrelieri
1991
Abstract Extraction of aerial parts of Artemisia barrelieri and chromatographic separation yielded a new germacranolide, two new monocyclic sesquiterpenes and a novel germacranolide dimer, together with several known compounds.
