Local mechanical and morphological characterization of FSW butt joints

2006

In this paper the results of an experimental investigation into the local mechanical and morphological characterization of AA6082-T6 friction stir-welded (FSW) butt joints are illustrated. The softening effects of the welding process are highlighted through the use of micro-indentation tests on the top surface of the specimens. The effect of post-welding heat treatments was investigated, also

A fully automatic method for biological target volume segmentation of brain metastases

2016

Leksell Gamma Knife is a mini-invasive technique to obtain a complete destruction of cerebral lesions delivering a single high dose radiation beam. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging is increasingly utilized for radiation treatment planning. Nevertheless, lesion volume delineation in PET datasets is challenging because of the low spatial resolution and high noise level of PET images. Nowadays, the biological target volume (BTV) is manually contoured on PET studies. This procedure is time expensive and operator-dependent. In this article, a fully automatic algorithm for the BTV delineation based on random walks (RW) on graphs is proposed. The results are compared with the outcomes of…

Penetration of 2% cyclosporin eyedrops into human aqueous humour.

1989

The penetration into the eye and the systemic absorption of 2% cyclosporin eye drops were determined by polarisation immunofluorescent assay of cyclosporin in the aqueous humour and plasma of 30 patients at the time of cataract surgery. The results were then compared with the corresponding results after oral administration at a dosage of 5 mg/kg/day to three further patients. The maximum intraocular concentration (24 (SD 9) mg/l) was achieved four hours after topical administration. This level was slightly less than that found in aqueous humour (28 (SD 10) mg/l) 12 hours after systemic administration of the drug at a dosage of 5 mg/kg/day. Both these levels are below the minimum therapeutic…

Unintentional dispersal of aquatic invertebrates via footwear and motor vehicles in a Mediterranean wetland area

2010

1. Several human activities, such as actions for nature conservation, research and recreational activities, are closely associated with inland aquatic habitats that are usually considered as isolated island habitats. In this study, the possibility of unintentional dispersal of aquatic invertebrates among water bodies via footwear and motor vehicles was investigated. 2. Mud samples collected from boots and from the tyres and wheel cases of cars used for field work by biologists (Camargue, Southern France) were hatched under laboratory conditions and also checked for the presence of unhatched propagules. A large number of organisms hatched and invertebrate propagules from a wide range of taxa…

A Simulation Analysis for Assessing the Reliability of AC/DC Hybrid Microgrids - Part II: Port Area and Residential Area

2021

This paper reports the second part of a simulation study with the aim of evaluating the ability of two portions of a hybrid AC/DC MV/LV network in maintaining their operation in off-grid mode during the loss of the main AC grid due to a failure. In particular, this paper follows a dual purpose: first, it analysis two microgrids in a residential area and a port zone capability of operating in islanded mode, applying a probabilistic approach, while there is different energy use cases, and second is to evaluate some reliability indicators.
