The mathematical formalism of category theory allows to investigate musical structures at both low and high levels, performance practice (with musical gestures) and music analysis. Mathematical formalism can also be used to connect music with other disciplines such as visual arts. In our analysis, we extend former studies on category theory applied to musical gestures, including musical instruments and playing techniques. Este artículo se basa en la idea de cómo la comunicación musical activa no solo elementos musicales sino culturales y sociales. Como práctica social, la música muestra tanto su poder comunicativo como los límites de la comunicación (entendida como un intercambio de mensajes y significados). En este sentido, el ruido se presenta como un factor de disrupción en el circuito semiótico y en las relaciones sociales. La cuestión del ruido se trata como un aspecto liminar del sonido y la música, como puede observarse en diversos ejemplos tomados de la vanguardia (ruidismo) hasta la música popular contemporánea (noise), pasando por géneros musicales particulares como el punk-rock o la música tecno.

Over the last two or three decades, the spatio-temporal contingency of human life has become an important topic of research in a broad range of different disciplines including the social sciences, the cultural sciences, the cognitive sciences, and philosophy. Significantly, however, this research topic is referred to in quite different ways: While some researchers refer to it in terms of the “situatedness” of human experience and action, others refer to it in terms of “place”, emphasizing the “power of place” and advocating a “topological” or “topographical turn” in the context of a larger “spatial turn”. How not to Resist the Natural Kind Talk in Biology

Abstract: After the dawn of the traditional, essentialist view of natural kinds in contemporary philosophy (exacerbated in philosophy of biology by “population thinking”), non-essentialist cluster conceptions of natural kinds have been extensively supported and applied to numerous biological categories. However, salient philosophers have put forward two challenging arguments against cluster kind theories. I argue that, in both cases, discontent with a cluster conception of natural kinds is motivated by tacit and previous assumptions that can be challenged. In questo articolo illustreremo alcuni esempi di canti di carcere riportati da Giuseppe Pitrè e Cesare Lombroso che diedero spunto a una polemica scientifica tra i due studiosi. L’analisi delle varianti che stanno alla base della disputa scientifica dei due fondatori della Demopsicologia e dell’Antropologia criminale, momento fondamentale della storia degli studi antropologici italiani dell’Ottocento, ci permetterà di comprendere come la trasmissione orale della cultura sia ancora oggi permeata dalle stesse modalità performativa che affondano le loro radici nei racconti dei miti.

The study of the extensive work of Álvaro Siza Vieira allows relating the progressive linguistic innovation and the spatial experimentation of his architecture with the use of different constructive techniques and technologies. Assuming the white colour as the guiding thread of the discourse, the professional trajectory of Siza is traversed from its initial link with the Portuguese architectural tradition of the early twentieth century, until the current adoption of the constructive principles of the exposed concrete.
