Silta yli synkän virran : perseveraation ilmeneminen aivoverenkirtohäiriöisen kuntoutujan musiikkiterapiaprosesissa
2012
Abstract: Tämän monimenetelmällisen tapaustutkimuksen tavoitteena on määritellä perseveraatiota ja sen ilmenemistä aivoverenkiertohäiriöisen asiakkaan musiikkiterapiassa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tutkimusmateriaalin pohjalta kuvata, määritellä ja analysoida perseveraation ilmenemistä yhdeksäntoista musiikkiterapiasession aikana; miten se ilmenee, mitkä tekijät vaikuttavat siihen eri toimintojen yhteydessä, kuinka useasti kuntoutuja juuttuu eri sessioiden aikana ja miten juuttuminen mahdollisesti muuttuu terapian edetessä. Tutkimuksen taustafilosofia on hermeneuttis-fenomenologinen, jossa tutkimuksen teoriapohja on muokannut tutkijan esiymmärrystä ja toiminut aineiston kartoittajana ei a…

Fight evolution with evolution: plasmid‐dependent phages with a wide host range prevent the spread of antibiotic resistance
2013
The emergence of pathogenic bacteria resistant to multiple antibiotics is a serious worldwide public health concern. Whenever antibiotics are applied, the genes encoding for antibiotic resistance are selected for within bacterial populations. This has led to the prevalence of conjugative plasmids that carry resistance genes and can transfer themselves between diverse bacterial groups. In this study, we investigated whether it is feasible to attempt to prevent the spread of antibiotic resistances with a lytic bacteriophage, which can replicate in a wide range of gram‐negative bacteria harbouring conjugative drug resistance–conferring plasmids. The counter‐selection against the plasmid was sh…
Antibacterial Efficiency of Surface-Immobilized Flavobacterium-Infecting Bacteriophage
2019
Control of bacterial diseases by bacteriophages (phages) is gaining more interest due to increasing antibiotic resistance. This has led to technologies to attach phages on surfaces to form a biomaterial that can functionally display phages that interact with bacteria, to carry out successful infection cycles. Such a material could be applied in many environments, where the target pathogens are expected. Although this approach has been applied successfully in a few studies already, the basis of the antibacterial effect by the immobilized phages is unclear, and the interpretation of the results depends on the study. Here, we studied the phage attachment density, their detachment rate and infe…

Dataset for Mucin induces CRISPR-Cas defense in an opportunistic pathogen
2022
This dataset contains raw data points of (1) phage-bacterium co-evolution experiment (flavobacterium columnare colony counts, phage counts, bacterial growth characteristics and number of CRISPR-Cas spacers) and (2) from competition experiment between Flavobacterium columnare and Aeromonas sp. For detailed method description, see the attached Documentation file.
Problem-Based Learning in Professional Studies from the Physiotherapy Students’ Perspective
2018
The aim of the study was to investigate how physiotherapy students using a problem-based learning approach develop into experts during higher education, and answers the question: How do physiotherapy students at bachelor’s level understand the problem-based learning approach while learning to become professionals? PBL is examined using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) of longitudinal data written by 15 voluntary students from two different higher education institutions and collected during 3.5 years. The main results on the new way of learning strengthen earlier conceptions of the importance of reflection in the learning process. The PBL method activates a reflection process b…
