Sandwich EPP hypothesis: Evidence from child Finnish
2010
It is well-known that grammatical movement is somehow linked to functional heads. There is less agreement on the excact nature of this correlation. According to one view, phrases are moved to the specifier positions of functional heads because functional heads attract them. According to another view, movement is not triggered by functional heads alone, but depends on the larger grammatical context. For instance, one such proposal says that T (tense) becomes attractive only when selected by finite C (complementizer), while V becomes attractive when selected byv* (transitivizer). What attracts phrases are therefore the C–T system and thev*–V system as a whole, not the individual functional he…
Spatio-temporal deixis and cognitive models in early Indo-European
2018
AbstractThis paper is a comparative study based on the linguistic evidence in Vedic Sanskrit and Homeric Greek, aimed at reconstructing the space-time cognitive models used in the Proto-Indo-European language in a diachronic perspective. While it has been widely recognized that ancient Indo-European languages construed earlier (and past) events as in front of later ones, as predicted in the Time-Reference-Point mapping, it is less clear how in the same languages the passage took place from this ‘archaic’ Time-RP model or non-deictic sequence, in which future events are behind or follow the past ones in a temporal sequence, to the more recent ‘post-archaic’ Ego-RP model that is found only fr…
Prejudice Towards Muslims: A Study among Young People in the North-West Region of Cameroon
2020
Muslims and Christians in Cameroon have coexisted for decades within a shared context, but there are no studies that seek to understand the nature of Christian–Muslim intergroup relations within th...
Synthesis and characterization of new 1,4 and 1,5-disubstituted glucopyranosyl 1,2,3-triazole by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition
2009
Abstract A series of 1,4 and 1,5-disubstituted 1-(β- d -glucopyranosyl)-1,2,3-triazoles has been prepared in an efficient manner with excellent yields using the intermolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 1-azido-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β- d -glucopyranose 2 to a variety of substituted alkynes phenylacethylene 3, propargyl alcohol 4, 2-butyn-1,4-diol, 5, 3-propargylbenzimidazole 6 and propargylpyrazole 7 in toluene. The reaction takes place with the formation of both 4- and 5-regioisomers.
Influence of Centerline Intermetallic Stringers on Pitting Corrosion Resistance of Superduplex Stainless Steel
2021
Superduplex stainless steel UNS S32750 / EN 1.4410 is commonly used in marine environment, petrochemical, oil and gas, chemical and desalination industries, requiring materials with superior corrosion and mechanical properties. Very few residual intermetallic particles may be present under the form of centerline stringers whose effects on corrosion properties are not well documented. A previous study demonstrated the negligible influence of the intermetallic phases in centerline stringers (typically < 0.1% over thickness) on the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of superduplex stainless steel [1]. The present study aims at highlighting the impact of centerline intermetallic stringers on…

Global changes promote the spread of infectious diseases worldwide. In this context, tropical urogenital schistosomiasis is now permanently established in Corsica since its first emergence in 2013. The local persistence of the tropical pathogens (schistosomes) responsible for urogenital schistosomiasis at such latitudes might be explained by (i) the presence of its intermediate host, the snail Bulinus truncatus, (ii) the recurrent local reseeding of schistosomes by their vertebrate hosts (either human or animal) every summer, and/or (iii) the maintenance and survival of schistosomes within their snail hosts over winter. In this study we conducted an ecological experiment to assess the abili…
Ecological fitness of the biocontrol agent Fusarium oxysporum Fo47 in soil and its impact on the soil microbial communities
2009
Some nonpathogenic strains of Fusarium oxysporum can control Fusarium diseases responsible for severe damages in many crops. Success of biological control provided by protective strains requires their establishment in the soil. The strain Fo47 has proved its efficacy under experimental conditions, but its ecological fitness has not been carefully studied. In a series of microcosm studies, the ability of a benomyl-resistant mutant Fo47b10 to establish in two different soils was demonstrated. One year after its introduction at two concentrations in the disinfected soils, the biocontrol agent (BCA) established at similar high population densities, whereas in the nondisinfected soils it survive…
P4730Underweight is associated with unfavourable short- and long-term outcomes after MitraClip therapy: a body mass index derived subgroup analysis o…
2019
Abstract Background Underweight and obesity represent classical risk factors for patients undergoing cardiac surgery or interventional treatment. The multicentre German Transcatheter Mitral Valve Interventions (TRAMI) registry comprises a large and prospectively enrolled real-world cohort of patients treated by MitraClip implantation. Aims The current analysis examines the impact of underweight, overweight and obesity on intra-hospital, short and long-term outcomes in patients treated by MitraClip therapy. Methods and results From 08/2010 until 07/2013, 799 patients (age 75.3±8.6 years, male gender 60.7%, median logistic EuroSCORE 20% [12; 31], functional mitral regurgitation (MR): 69.3%) w…
