This work addresses the way in which Argentine Fat Activism has developed, in recent years, the demand for depathologization of fatness, taking elements from critical discourses on the health of fat people to frame them in a perspective typical of the Human Rights. Hashimoto Thyroiditis Coexistent with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

Several studies report a higher rate of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTC) in patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT), indicating a possible correlation between the two diseases. We studied a group of 89 subjects undergoing surgery for thyroid carcinomas compared with a control group of 89 subjects operated on for normofunctioning goiter, and a second group of 47 patients undergoing total thyroidectomy for HT. Association with HT was found in 19 of the 71 PTC subjects (26.7%) and in 8 goiter patients (8.9%), which was a significant difference ( P < 0.02). Validity of the study of sentinel lymph nodes in the treatment of breast carcinoma.

Since it was introduced in the 1990s, axillary sentinel lymph-node biopsy has been rapidly and widely adopted to avoid complete axillary dissection (though this is still the standard procedure). The aims of the study were two-fold: (i) to determine the value of different techniques of sentinel lymph-node identification and (ii) to verify the predictive value of such procedures through histological examination of the sentinel lymph node and axillary dissection in the same patients. Both sentinel lymph-node biopsy and axillary dissection were performed in 230 patients with T1 and T2 (< 3 cm) carcinoma of the breast. Nonlinear nonhomogeneous Neumann eigenvalue problems

We consider a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator with a reaction which is $(p-1)$-superlinear near $\pm\infty$ and exhibits concave terms near zero. We show that for all small values of the parameter, the problem has at least five solutions, four of constant sign and the fifth nodal. We also show the existence of extremal constant sign solutions.

Women’s empowerment and child mortality: the case of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the Southern Asian country that has been experiencing the highest absolute decline in the Under Five Mortality Rate in the past 15 years. This paper focuses on the importance of women’s education and empowerment variables in explaining this extraordinary result. We use a twolevel multilevel logistic regression to take into account the great differences among territorial communities in terms of child mortality reduction. It emerges that the importance of woman’s empowerment - measured as individual and as mother - remains relevant even when the context is considered. A sensitivity analysis has been conducted to test the relevance of different indicators of female empowerment.

A global perspective on effectiveness of aid for trade

2013

Recent global initiatives on debt relief and development assistance call for increasing aid for trade to the poorest countries. The paper applies a multi-country computable general equilibrium model to measure the effectiveness of alternative aid for trade categories. The findings show that aid for trade policies expand trade and alleviate international income inequalities in the recipient countries, that will benefit mainly from aid for trade adjustment and technical assistance.

Denied to typology Southern architecture in the essay recognizes a specific identity and perfect exceptionality in the essence of the place. If the facade establishes a relationship with the aesthetics of the landscape the underlying themes define other significant relationships. The logical ordering of the members the geometric clarity and the rigor of the relationships refer to an architecture that is measured and is a measure itself of the territory and its morphology. In turn the thickness of the facade expresses the relationship with the environment and interprets the climatic conditions in a poetic way intervening on the control of light on the voids in the wall faces on the determination of the shadow. In this way facade-proportion-thickness with the corresponding terms of landscape-territory-environment relationship define a double triad attributable to patterns and features typical of southern Italy and which however also belong to other southern Europe.Settore ICAR/14 - Composizione Architettonica E Urbana
