Langzeitverlauf und angiographische Befunde bei serpiginöser Choroiditis

2006

Background: Long-term follow-up and angiographic findings of serpiginous choroiditis, a chronic disease with recurrences of unknown origin, are reported. Patients and Methods: A retrospective analysis of the data of 4 patients with serpiginous choroidopathy, who were treated in the eye clinic of Mainz in the past 10-18 years was made. Progression of disease was documented by photography, as well as fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography. Patients with acute lesions were treated with steroids per os for some weeks. Results: All 8 eyes developed 2 - 7 recurrences with progression of the chorioretinal scars. In cases of macular involvement the functional results were worse. No choroidal…

Dolichoectasia of the vertebrobasilar complex causing neural compression

2014

Dear Editor, We have read with great interest the paper of Yuh et al.[4] reporting a case of symptomatic hydrocephalus due to vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) compressing the brainstem. Ectatic or pathologically enlarged vertebrobasilar arteries have been reported with increasing frequency and associated with several clinical syndromes. These include an assortment of cranial nerve syndromes, transient or permanent motor deficit, cerebellar dysfunction, central sleep apnea, ischemic stroke, hypertension, and hydrocephalus as reported in the paper by Yuh et al.[4] Others and we have also described pyramidal tract signs and cranial nerve nucleus dysfunction caused by vascular compression o…

111-Indium-DTPA-Octreotid-Szintigraphie bei kolorektalen Lebermetastasen

1997

The somatostatin analogue octreotide is effective in the treatment of neuroendocrine and other tumours. 111-In-labelled DTPA-octreotide scintigraphy is successful in localizing primary neuroendocrine tumours and metastases and other tumours containing somatostatin receptors. An antiproliferative effect of octreotide was also demonstrated for colorectal carcinoma. Since only about 40% of colorectal carcinomas express somatostatin receptors, we tried to establish whether 111-In-labelled DTPA-octreotide scintigraphy is able to reveal the receptor status of liver metastases in patients with colorectal liver metastases. This would be useful in selecting patients for adjuvant therapy studies with…

Diagnostische Möglichkeiten und Behandlungsstrategien für die Fraktur der Eminentia intercondylica im Wachstumsalter

1995

Between 1970 and 1993 29 fractures of the intercondylar eminence were seen in children with almost the same number of cases showing no or minor displacement as those requiring open reduction for major dislocation. Combined knee injury must be suspected the higher the patient's age and the more pronounced the displacement of the fragment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained diagnostic predominance. Arthroscopy remains important for surgical management, especially of associated meniscus and cartilage damage. Early puncture of hemarthrosis is essential. Closed management is the therapy for nondisplaced fragments or those with bone contact or only tuberculum fractures--while displaced f…

Strength training and neuromuscular function in elderly people with total knee endoprosthesis

2007

The effects of 1 year of intensive strength training on neuromuscular function were studied in elderly people operated for total endoprosthesis (n=30) divided into 3 groups: training pup 1 (TG1, n=11), training pup 2 (TG2, n=10) and control group (CG, n=9). After the operation, TG1 and TG2 trained every second day and the training was controlled by training diaries, and CG performed only conventional exercises by themselves. The overall volume of training in TG2 was 30% greater than in TG1. Neuromuscular function was examined by measuring maximal electromyography (EMG) and maximum voluntary isometric and dynamic strength of the knee extensor and flexor muscles. The range of motion of the kn…

Randomized clinical trial comparing liver resection with and without perioperative assessment of liver function

2018

Background Liver function tests may help to predict outcomes after liver surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical impact on postoperative outcome and patient management of perioperative liver function testing using the LiMAx® test. Methods A multicentre RCT was conducted in six academic liver centres. Patients with intrahepatic tumours scheduled for open liver resection of at least one segment were eligible. Patients were randomized to undergo additional perioperative liver function tests (LiMAx® group) or standard care (control group). Patients in the intervention arm received two perioperative LiMAx® tests, one before the operation for surgical planning and another afte…

SPCCTDM, a Catalogue for Analysis of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Related Contents

2013

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) has consistently been shown to be useful for optimization of drug therapy. For the first time, a method has been developed for the text analysis of TDM in SPCs in that a catalogue SPC-ContentTDM (SPCCTDM) provides a codification of the content of TDM in SPCs. It consists of six structure-related items (dose, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, overdose, pregnancy/breast feeding, and pharmacokinetics) according to implicit or explicit references to TDM in paragraphs of the SPC, and four theory-guided items according to the information about ranges of plasma concentrations and a recommendation of TDM in the SPC. The catalogue is regarded as valid for t…

An FFR CT diagnostic strategy versus usual care in patients with suspected coronary artery disease planned for invasive coronary angiography at Germa…

2017

Aim Diagnostic evaluation practices for suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) may vary between countries. Our objective was to compare a CT-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) diagnostic strategy with usual care in patients with planned invasive coronary angiography (ICA) enrolled in the PLATFORM (Prospective Longitudinal Trial of FFRCT: Outcome and Resource Impacts) study at German sites. Methods Patients were divided into two consecutive observational cohorts, receiving either usual care or CT angiography (CTA)/FFRCT. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients planned for ICA, with no obstructive CAD on ICA within 90 days. Secondary endpoints included death, myocardial infa…

Das Popliteaaneurysma: Klinik und Diagnostik

1995

PURPOSE To identify clinical and radiological features allowing an early diagnosis of popliteal aneurysms. MATERIAL AND METHODS History, clinical features and radiological findings of 23 patients with 37 aneurysms were reviewed. RESULTS 14 patients presented with a history of a sudden onset of rest pain localised in the calf or foot. Arteriography found popliteal artery occlusion in 12 of them. Amputation was necessary in one patient in spite of immediate diagnosis and therapy. In two cases embolisation of the tibial vessels caused intermittent claudication. In at least 7 patients the underlying disease was not suspected until arteriography was performed. In 16/23 patients the presence of t…

Gegenüberstellung der Wertigkeit von Angioskopie, Angiographie und Sonographie zur Erfassung pathologischer Gefäßwandprozesse

1994

AIMS The ability of angioscopy, angiography and sonography to evaluate arteriosclerotic vascular lesions were compared to determine if angioscopy is a valuable addition in the diagnostic armamentarium. METHODS An in-vitro study was selected to enable microscopic assessment of the arteries. Angiography was followed by sonography and endoscopy and finally the vessels were evaluated macro- and microscopically. RESULTS The configuration of the vascular stenosis (plaque-shape, semicircular-eccentric, circular-concentric) was more reliably defined with angioscopy as compared to angiography and sonography. Intense calcification of plaque was detected sonographically with a high sensitivity (90%) u…
