Endometrial cancer: Robotic versus Laparoscopic treatment. Preliminary report

2015

Laparoscopic approach is today the standard treatment for benign and malignant gynecological pathologies. To traditional laparoscopic surgery in the last 10 years we can add the possibility to use a robotic platform. The adoption of this system allows undoubted advantages as the three-dimensional vision, the absence of the physiological tremor with enhanced ergonomics and possibility of using articulable tools. In this study we analyzed the results of 18 patients with endometrial cancer (Stage I) treated with robotic approach. The results were compared with a selected sample of 26 patients, with the same characteristics, treated with traditional laparoscopic approach in the same period by t…

Achalasia

2012

Introduction Many physicians are inadequately familiar with the clinical features of achalasia. Often, it is not diagnosed until years after the symptoms arise. This is unfortunate, because a delay in diagnosis worsens the prognosis.

2000

In spite of the widespread availability of CT scanners, conventional X-ray radiographs remain the basic imaging modality in patients with pelvic and/or acetabular trauma. However, the extent of their use will depend on local utilities (e.g., availability of CT scanners) and on the patient's clinical condition. Regarding the inaccuracy of conventional radiography in the diagnosis of injuries of the dorsal pelvic ring and of the acetabulum, computed tomography represents the most important imaging modality in the clinically stable patient. CT provides an exact staging of the extent of trauma and allows for differentiation of pelvic instabilities. CT clearly demonstrates the severity of acetab…

Akustikusneurinom als Ursache einer progredienten kindlichen Hörstörung

2003

Background: Neurinomas of the vestibulocochlear nerve unrelated to neurofibromatosis in children are extremely rare. Only 20 cases in children under the age of 16 are reported in the literature. Progressive unilateral hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo and neurological deficits due to cranial nerve or brainstem compression are clinical signs. Patient and Results: We report on the case of a 12-years-old girl with an unilateral hearing loss, progressing to total deafness. Otoacoustic emissions were normal. In the MRI a large cerebellopontine angle tumor was found, identified as schwannoma of the vestibulocochlear nerve. Conclusions: The importance of MR Imaging in children with progressive unila…

Congenitally corrected transposition of great vessels: MRI and echocardiographic appearance

1995

This paper presents the case of a 36-year-old male with congenitally corrected transposition of great vessels (CTGV). This is a rare cardiac anomaly characterized by atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, occuriing in less than 1% of all congenital heart diseases. This was diagnosed by echocardiography and MRI. The MRI findings demonstrated cardiac abnormality.

Resting myocardial blood flow quantification using contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the presence of stenosis: A computational fluid dy…

2015

Purpose: The extent to which atherosclerotic plaques affect contrast agent (CA) transport in the coronary arteries and, hence, quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is unclear. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the influence of plaque induced stenosis both on CA transport and on the accuracy of MBF quantification. Methods: Computational fluid dynamics simulations in a high-detailed realistic vascular model were employed to investigate CA bolus transport in the coronary arteries. The impact of atherosclerosis was analyzed by inserting various medium- to high-grade stenoses in the vascular model. The influence of stenosis morphology was ex…

Determinants of high-grade anal intraepithelial lesions in HIV-positive men having sex with men

2018

Background Identifying determinants for histologically proven high-grade anal intraepithelial lesions (hHSIL) in HIV-positive MSM would allow better targeted screening. Methods APACHES is a prospective study of anal HPV and related-lesions in 513 HIV-positive MSM aged ≥35 in six clinics across France. At baseline, participants underwent high resolution anoscopy (HRA) with biopsy of suspicious lesions, preceded by anal swabs for liquid-based cytology, p16/Ki67 immunostaining, and HPV DNA. hHSIL diagnosis was established by histopathological review panel consensus, and determinants assessed by logistic regression. Results Baseline hHSIL prevalence was 10.4% and did not differ significantly by…
