Psychomotor and Motor Speed in Power Athletes Self-Administering Testosterone and Anabolic Steroids

Abstract The effect of self-administered testosterone and anabolic steroids on psychomotor and motor speed were studied among five top-level power athletes. The experiment included a 26-week intensive strength training period in association with the use of exogenous hormones and a 6-week follow-up after drug withdrawal. Six athletes not using exogenous hormones served as a control group. The results indicated a similar, and in most cases insignificant, improvement (0–10%) in performance in both groups in both the simple and more complicated motor and psychomotor tests. Population I Leydig cells of the central part of the Albino rat testicle showed signs of increased but nonspecific activity in the entire series of experimental animals compared with sham irradiated controls (n = 30 in each group) after anterior pituitary stimulation with low incident energy levels of the HeNe laser at 632.8 nm with an incident power at the pituitary calculated as 2.75 ± 0.25 mW. Topical canrenoic acid. Quantification of the antiandrogenic activity in the hamster flank organ

: The topical antiandrogenic activity of potassium canrenoate (CAK), compared with that of spironolactone (SP), was assayed in vivo in female golden Syrian hamsters whose flank organs were stimulated by subcutaneous administration of testosterone propionate. Sebaceous glands and hair were measured by a computerized image analyzer. Pigmented spots, sebaceous gland areas, and the diameter of hairs of the treated flank organs were smaller in the groups that received CAK (1·6 mg/day) and SP (0·4 mg/day). Testosterone and attribution of successful competition

Mood, personal merit, and/or its perception have been suggested to be mediating factors in testosterone responses to competition. Previously we have found that personal contribution and attribution were related to testosterone levels after successful competition. To confirm such associations, two basketball teams (n = 17 players) that emerged as winners in two actual matches were studied. Salivary testosterone levels and mood were measured before and after the games. Effects of strength training on muscle power and serum hormones in middle-aged and older men.

Effects of 16-wk strength training on maximal strength and power performance of the arm and leg muscles and serum concentrations [testosterone (T), free testosterone (FT), and cortisol] were examined in 11 middle-aged (M46; 46 ± 2 yr) and 11 older men (M64; 64 ± 2 yr). During the 16-wk training, the relative increases in maximal strength and muscle power output of the arm and leg muscles were significant in both groups ( P < 0.05–0.001), with no significant differences between the two groups.
