Hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease; human infection occurs through the consumption of food and water contaminated with the eggs of parasites of the Echinococcus type. While the liver is the most common site of infection, involvement of the musculoskeletal system is extremely rare. In the context of musculoskeletal involvement, the spine is the most commonly infected site, while the muscles are rarely infected and account for approximately <1% of cases. It has been suggested that muscles provide an unsuitable environment for the parasite, because of the presence of lactic acid. Medical texts (reports, articles, etc.) are usually written by professionals (physicians, medical researchers, etc.) who use their own language and communication style. On the other hand, these texts are often read by health consumers (as in the case of medical reports) who do not have the same skills and vocabularies of the experts and can have difficulties in text comprehension. To help a health consumer in understanding a medical text, it would be desirable to have an automatic system that, given a text written with medical (technical) terms, translates them in simple or plain language and provides additional information with the same kind of language. Context: Warming up in very cold climates and maintaining an elevated body temperature prior to a race is challenging for snow-sport athletes. Purpose: To investigate the effects of active (ACT), passive (PAS), and a combination of ACT and PAS (COM) warm-ups on maximal physical performance in a subzero environment among snow-sport athletes. Methods: Ten junior alpine skiers completed 3 experimental trials in −7.2 (0.2)°C. The effect of L-thyroxine on the metamorphosis of Ascidia malaca

Larvae of Ascidia malaca, both before and after hatching, were treated with L-thyroxine solutions. The effect of the thyroid hormone was to induce the onset of metamorphosis and then to cause the rate at which body reorganization occurred to increase. In treated larvae the resorption of the tail occurred only few hours after hatching, and a beating heart appeared form 10 to 15 h earlier than in the control larvae. These results are discussed in the context of a probable relationship between the occurrence of a hormonal metamorphic factor and the button cells of the trunk.

Background Sclerostin is an osteocyte-specific factor that binds to low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway and possibly contributing to the pathogenesis of Ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Subclinical gut inflammation observed in AS patients is characterized by the presence of dysbiosis and innate immune alterations. In the gut, LRP5 activation by unknown ligands inhibits serotonin production. Serotonin, by inducing glial derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), controls ILC3 expansion, in the context of glial–ILC3–epithelial cell unit (GIECU).
