2018
The work was supported by philanthropist MikroTik and administrated by the University of Latvia Foundation. The experiment at HASYLAB/DESY was performed within the project I-20160149 EC.
Spin crossover in metallomesogens
2009
Abstract In this review article are illustrated the strategies developed in order to achieve interplay/synergy between spin transition and liquid crystal transition. The synthesised Fe(II) metallomesogens exhibit different types of interplay between both phase transitions. A classification according to the analysis of the magnetic and structural data has led to the separation of three types of interplay, namely: type i systems with coupled phase transitions, subdivided into three groups a , b and c (in a the structural changes associated with the Cr ↔ LC drive the spin transition while in b these structural changes influence the spin state of the metallic centers but they are not the drivin…

Thermochromic Thin Films: Synthesis, Properties and Energy Consumption Modelling
2013
Thermochromic materials such as vanadium dioxide have been postulated for use in “SMART” windows for a number of years. Such windows work by exploiting a structural phase change from an infra-red transmissive state to a infra-red reflective state. Significant challenges still remain before such materials will be able to find wide spread use. In this mini review we discuss the nature of this thermochromic transition with reference to the latest research work in the field. We pay particular attention to challenges such as film colouration, transition temperature, and transition hysteresis. We describe the most up to date strategies for addressing these challenges, considering advanced synthes…

Photo- and Thermochromic and Adsorption Properties of Porous Coordination Polymers Based on Bipyridinium Carboxylate Ligands
2015
The zwitterionic bipyridinium carboxylate ligand 1-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium (hpc1) in the presence of 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate anions (BDC(2-)) and Zn(2+) ions affords three porous coordination polymers (PCPs): [Zn5(hpc1)2(BDC)4(HCO2)2]·2DMF·EtOH·H2O (1), [Zn3(hpc1)(BDC)2(HCO2)(OH)(H2O)]·DMF·EtOH·H2O (2), and [Zn10(hpc1)4(BDC)7(HCO2)2(OH)4(EtOH)2]·3DMF·3H2O (3), with the formate anions resulting from the in situ decomposition of dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent molecules. 1 and 3 are photo- and thermochromic, turning dark green as a result of the formation of bipyridinium radicals, as shown by electron paramagnetic resonance measurements. Particularly, crystals of 3 are very photo…

(Me3Sn)2SbSb(SnMe3)2, 1∞-verknüpfte SbSb-Hanteln in einem thermochromen Distiban mit Schweratomgerüst
1987
Abstract Single crystals of the thermochromic distibane (Me 3 Sn) 4 Sb 2 ( 1 ) are obtained by irradiation of (Me 3 Sn) 3 Sb with sunlight. The crystal structure of 1 is reported as linear chains of distibane molecules in trans conformation with Sb ⋯ Sb contacts of 389 ppm. Diffuse reflexion spectra of 1 in the solid state and in solution demonstrate thermochromic effect. The Raman spectrum of solid 1 exhibits strong absorption at 162 cm −1 for ν(Sb 2 ).
