Application of Infrared Thermography in the Assessment of Sport Equipment

2019

Abstract Infrared thermography is a noninvasive imaging technique used to determine surface temperatures under controlled conditions. This technique has many applications in different fields, the assessment of sport equipment being one of them. This chapter aims to provide a general overview of the scientific literature regarding the application of infrared thermography for the assessment of sport equipment. Some examples are provided based on the recent literature and the background experience of the chapter authors in the use of infrared thermography in sport. Examples include the monitoring of formula one (F1) tires during racing, detection of technological doping in cycling, saddle fit …

Footwear outsole temperature may be more related to plantar pressure during a prolonged run than foot temperature.

2021

Objective. The temperature of the sole of the foot has been suggested as an alternative to the measurement of plantar pressure during running despite the scarce evidence about their relationship. The temperature of the footwear outsole could also be representative of plantar pressure distribution due to its less multifactorial dependence. The aim of the study was to determine if plantar pressure during a prolonged run could be related to plantar temperature, either of the sole of the foot or the footwear outsole.Approach. Thirty recreational runners (15 males and 15 females) performed a 30 min running test on a treadmill. Thermographic images of the sole of the foot and the footwear outsole…

Determination of energy fluxes in composite plates or processed by Vico-constrained damping patch

2021

Lightening structures is an important issue in the world of transport. On the other hand, for the improvement of comfort, increasing performance is demanded today, particularly in the vibratory and acoustic field, which leads to the addition of damping materials. The proposed research work consists in the vibrational optimization of the structures by the addition of viscoelastic patches damping positioned wisely. The main function of the viscoelastic used to improve the vibro-acoustic performances, is to provide a mechanism of dissipation of mechanical energy. This attenuation of noise and vibrations causes a conversion of mechanical energy into thermal energy, which, after diffusion into t…

Infrared Thermography. An in Vitro Study on Its Use as Diagnostic Test in Dentistry

2017

Pulp tissue consists of richly vascularized and innervated tissue with a very small circulatory access zone (the apical foramen) [1]. The amount and quality of pulp tissue can only be determined using histological techniques, which imply necrosis of the tissue [2].

Analysis of factors determining thermal changes at osteotomy site in dental implant placement - An in-vitro study

2021

Background Heat generation during osteotomy site preparation is a crucial factor that determines the success of dental implant placement. Among the factors that affect the heat generation, drilling speed, hand pressure and coolant temperature are independent variables. However, a relation between these three parameters and their optimal values required for the maximum outcome has not been studied so far. This study aims at finding out a relation between these factors in order to derive the optimum balance required, using an in vitro study. Material and methods This in vitro experiment was performed on bovine femur. A total of 72 drillings were undertaken with the aid of a physiodispenser mo…

Use of thermography in the diagnosis of pressure ulcers category I: A protocol proposal

2016

ressure ulcers (PU) category I are defined by intact skin with non-blanchable erythema of a localized area, usually over a bony prominence. Although they are often underdiagnosed, they may indicate “at risk” persons. There are available different procedures to diagnose pressure ulcers category I, such as but these methods can produce a misdiagnosis. Infrared thermal imaging may be helpful to resolve his conflict. We propose a protocol to observational and prospective study for the diagnosis of PU category I using thermography. Sin financiación No data (2016) UEV

Thermographic Analysis of Tooth Vascularization Using Thermal Stimulation

2018

Objective: The current pulp diagnostic techniques based on subjective patient response to electrical or thermal stimuli are unable to assess tooth vascularization, which is a true indicator of pulp vitality. The present study evaluates thermography as a pulp vitality test, assessing tooth recovery following thermal stimulation. Methods: A model simulating intrapulpal circulation was developed. Superficial thermographic measurements were obtained from teeth with and without elevation of the intracoronal temperature before and after applying thermal stress with cold. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the level of significance was set at P<0.05. Results: The model …

Defect detection in laser powder deposition components by laser thermography and laser ultrasonic inspections

2013

Laser Powder Deposition (LDP) techniques are being adopted within aerospace and automotive manufacturing to produce innovative precision components. Non-destructive techniques (NDT) for detecting and quantifying flaws within these components enables performance and acceptance criteria to be verified, improving product safety and reducing ongoing maintenance and product repair costs. In this work, software enabled techniques are presented for in-process analysis of NDT laser ultrasonic signals and pulsed laser thermography images of sequential metallic LPD layers. LPD tracks can be as thin as 200μm while deposited at a rate of 500 mm/min, requiring ultrafast inspection and processing times. …
