Space-Time FPCA Clustering of Multidimensional Curves.

2018

In this paper we focus on finding clusters of multidimensional curves with spatio-temporal structure, applying a variant of a k-means algorithm based on the principal component rotation of data. The main advantage of this approach is to combine the clustering functional analysis of the multidimensional data, with smoothing methods based on generalized additive models, that cope with both the spatial and the temporal variability, and with functional principal components that takes into account the dependency between the curves.

First‐Derivative Fourier‐Transform Infrared Determination of Oxadiazon in Commercial Herbicide Formulations

2008

Abstract A Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) method has been developed for the quantification of oxadiazon in herbicide formulations. The method involves the extraction of the active ingredient by sonication of the samples with CHCl3 and direct measurement of the peak area values in first‐order derivate spectra from 1770 cm−1 to 1774 cm−1 corrected with a baseline point located at 1950 cm−1 and after a 5‐point smoothing. A limit of detection (3 s) of 0.03 mg g−1 and a typical relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.3% were found. Results obtained were comparable with those found by liquid chromatography with UV detection. The proposed method involves a 7‐times reduction in solvent consumptio…

Assessment of regional ventilation distribution: comparison of vibration response imaging (VRI) with electrical impedance tomography (EIT)

2013

BACKGROUND: Vibration response imaging (VRI) is a bedside technology to monitor ventilation by detecting lung sound vibrations. It is currently unknown whether VRI is able to accurately monitor the local distribution of ventilation within the lungs. We therefore compared VRI to electrical impedance tomography (EIT), an established technique used for the assessment of regional ventilation. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Simultaneous EIT and VRI measurements were performed in the healthy and injured lungs (ALI; induced by saline lavage) at different PEEP levels (0, 5, 10, 15 mbar) in nine piglets. Vibration energy amplitude (VEA) by VRI, and amplitudes of relative impedance changes (rel.ΔZ) …

A Digital Twin predictive maintenance framework of air handling units based on automatic fault detection and diagnostics

2022

The building industry consumes the most energy globally, making it a priority in energy efficiency initiatives. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems create the heart of buildings. Stable air handling unit (AHU) functioning is vital to ensuring high efficiency and extending the life of HVAC systems. This research proposes a Digital Twin predictive maintenance framework of AHU to overcome the limitations of facility maintenance management (FMM) systems now in use in buildings. Digital Twin technology, which is still at an initial stage in the facility management industry, use Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of things (IoT) and semantic technologies to create…

An Enhanced Detector of Blurred and Noisy Edges

2007

Detecting edges in digital images is a tricky operation in image processing since images may contain areas with different degrees of noise, blurring and sharpness. Such operation represents an important step of the whole process of similarity shape analysis and retrieval.

Polynomial Smoothing Splines

2014

Interpolating splines is a perfect tool for approximation of a continuous-time signal \(f(t)\) in the case when samples \(x[k]=f(k),\;k\in \mathbb {Z}\) are available. However, frequently, the samples are corrupted by random noise. In such case, the so-called smoothing splines provide better approximation. In this chapter we describe periodic smoothing splines in one and two dimensions. The SHA technique provides explicit expression of such splines and enables us to derive optimal values of the regularization parameters.

Rash and multiorgan dysfunction following lamotrigine: could genetic be involved?

2015

We report the case of a 38-year-old woman treated with lamotrigine who experienced multi-organ dysfunction. The patient received the drug at the dose of 100 mg per day. One week later, the treatment was suspended because of an extensive body rash. Twenty-four hours later, the patient appeared drowsy and stuporous and was hospitalized. On the fifth day, the patient was admitted with a clinical picture of acute multi-organ failure in our Institute, where, she, despite the support of vital functions with vasoactive drugs, continuous hemofiltration and ventilation with oxygen, died. Serum lamotrigine concentration was measured 110 h after its last dose and the drug resulted to be still present …

The play and language behavior of mothers with and without dyslexia and its association to their toddlers' language development.

2004

The play and language behavior of mothers with ( n = 49) and without ( n = 49) specific reading disabilities (RD) was investigated during play with their 14-month-old children. The contribution of maternal behavior to the language development of their children was examined. The children's receptive and expressive language skills were assessed longitudinally at 14, 18, and 30 months, using the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories and the Reynell Developmental Language Scales. Children with and without familial risk for RD did not differ from each other in any play or language measures at these ages. No group differences were found for mothers' manifestations of nonsymbolic play a…

Bodies displayed on walls: are children’s bodies represented in an inclusive way in the pictures on the walls in their early childhood educational en…

2016

AbstractThe messages conveyed by visual representations in the early childhood education (ECE) environment are critical to ensuring the success of inclusive practices. Given that anti-bias education permeates and affects everything which takes place in ECE institutions, the challenge for early childhood educators is to think creatively about how classroom walls can be used effectively as part of an educational environment rather than for purely decorative purposes. Our research aimed to examine, through a content analysis of the illustrations, the representation of the body taking into account the different categories as they are portrayed on nine different ECE classroom walls in Spanish pu…
