Retrieving Monitoring and Accounting Information from Constrained Devices in Internet-of-Things Applications
2013
Part 6: Monitoring Mechanisms; International audience; Internet-of-Things (IoT) is envisioned to provide connectivity to a vast number of sensing or actuating devices with limited computational and communication capabilities. For the organizations that manage these constrained devices, the monitoring of each device’s operational status and performance level as well as the accounting of their resource usage are of great importance. However, monitoring and accounting support is lacking in today’s IoT platforms. Hence, this paper studies the applicability of the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP), a lightweight transfer protocol under development by IETF, for efficiently retrieving monito…
Coupled conditional backward sampling particle filter
2020
The conditional particle filter (CPF) is a promising algorithm for general hidden Markov model smoothing. Empirical evidence suggests that the variant of CPF with backward sampling (CBPF) performs well even with long time series. Previous theoretical results have not been able to demonstrate the improvement brought by backward sampling, whereas we provide rates showing that CBPF can remain effective with a fixed number of particles independent of the time horizon. Our result is based on analysis of a new coupling of two CBPFs, the coupled conditional backward sampling particle filter (CCBPF). We show that CCBPF has good stability properties in the sense that with fixed number of particles, …

Temporal dynamics of lung aeration determined by dynamic CT in a porcine model of ARDS
2001
We used dynamic CT to identify two different time constants of lung aeration and their individual contribution to the total increase in cross-sectional lung area in healthy and experimentally damaged lungs. In five healthy pigs, inflation and deflation between 0 and 50 cm H2O was imposed during dynamic (250 ms/image) CT acquisition, and repeated after experimental lung injury by saline lavage. The fractional areas of density ranges, which represent aerated lung parenchyma, were determined planimetrically, and their time for expansion during the manoeuvre was fitted using a bi-exponential model. Thus, two compartments, their sizes, i.e. their relative contributions to lung area aerated by th…
An inhaled tumor necrosis factor-alpha-derived TIP peptide improves the pulmonary function in experimental lung injury: inhaled TIP peptide in experi…
2012
INTRODUCTION The lectin-like domain of TNF-α enhances the fluid clearance across the alveolar barrier. For experimental purposes, the lectin-like domain can be mimicked by a synthetic peptide representing the TIP-motif of TNF-α. The present study aims to assess the acute effect of TIP on the pulmonary function in a porcine model of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). METHODS Lung injury was induced in 16 pigs (25-27 kg) by bronchoalveolar lavage followed by injurious ventilation. Following randomisation, either nebulised TIP (1 mg/kg; AP301, APEPTICO, Vienna, Austria) or water for injection (control group) was administered. During 5 h of monitoring, the extravascular lung water inde…
Software zur automatischen Quantifizierung von Belüftungszuständen bei akutem Lungenversagen in dynamischen CT-Aufnahmen der Lunge1
2001
Purpose: Density measurements in dynamic CT image series of the lungs allow one to quantify ventilated, hyperinflated, and atelectatic pulmonary compartments with high temporal resolution. Fast automatic segmentation of lung parenchyma and a subsequent evaluation of it's respective density values are a prerequisite for any clinical application of this technique. Material and Methods: For automatic lung segmentation in thoracic CT scans, an algorithm was developed which uses (a) different density masks, and (b) anatomic knowledge to differentiate heart, diaphragm and chest wall from ventilated and atelectatic lung parenchyma. With Animal Care Committee approval, the automated technique was t…
Quantification of LAI interannual anomalies by adjusting climatological patterns
2011
International audience; Scaling variations and shifts in the timing of seasonal phenology are central features of global change research. In this study, we propose a novel climatology fitting approach to quantify inter-annual anomalies in LAI seasonality. A consistent archive of daily LAI estimates was first derived from historical AVHRR satellite data for the 1981-2000 period over a globally representative sample of sites. The climatology values were then computed by averaging multi-year LAI profiles, gap filling and smoothing to eliminate possible high temporal frequency residual artifacts. The inter-annual variations in LAI were finally quantified by scaling and shifting the seasonal cli…
PENERAPAN METODE SINGLE MOVING AVERAGE DAN EXSPONENTIAL SMOOTHING PADA USAHA ASRIE MODESTA
2020
This study aims to (1) analyze the number of demands for batik products in the second period of 2018. (2) To analyze the most appropriate forecasting method. (3) To analyze the forecasting of the first period in 2019 using the selected forecasting method.
This reseach uses primary data and secondary data with data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis used is Single Moving Averages and Exsponential Smoothing.
The results of research in forecasting demand for batik products in 2019 with the Single Moving Average method are 3,936 units with Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) of 632.5 units and Mean Square Error (MSE) of 693,718 units. An…
Family Structure and Subjective Economic Well-Being: Some New Evidence
2013
The paper investigates the main socio-demographic and economic determinants of subjective economic well-being in different typologies of households. Previous studies have used dummy variables to explore the effect of family structure. In this paper, however four different models—one for each family typology—have been estimated to test if each selected explanatory variable is significant and how it acts in determining the level of subjective economic well-being. To achieve this, we apply an under-used logit model—the partial proportional ordered model. Our analysis, based on data from the 2005 Italian Survey on Income and Living Conditions highlights the main variables affecting the subjecti…
Amplitude, Latency, and Peak Velocity in Accommodation and Disaccommodation Dynamics
2017
The aim of this work was to ascertain whether there are differences in amplitude, latency, and peak velocity of accommodation and disaccommodation responses when different analysis strategies are used to compute them, such as fitting different functions to the responses or for smoothing them prior to computing the parameters. Accommodation and disaccommodation responses from four subjects to pulse changes in demand were recorded by means of aberrometry. Three different strategies were followed to analyze such responses: fitting an exponential function to the experimental data; fitting a Boltzmann sigmoid function to the data; and smoothing the data. Amplitude, latency, and peak velocity of …
