AbstractPreterm infants have an increased risk of cognitive and behavioral deficits and cerebral palsy compared to term born babies. Especially before 32 weeks of gestation, infants may require respiratory support, but at the same time, ventilation is known to induce oxidative stress, increasing the risk of brain injury. Ventilation may cause brain damage through two pathways: localized cerebral inflammatory response and hemodynamic instability. Systematic reviews of balance control have tended to only focus on the effects of single lower-limb stimulation strategies, and a current limitation is the lack of comparison between different relevant stimulation strategies. Through the analysis of six architectural monstrances housed in churches and museums in Sicily, the formal and compositional languages that, between Iberian and Renaissance suggestions, characterize these masterpieces of sacred art are analyzed. They are small silver architectures, produced between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, which are influenced by the Catalan Gothic influences and the Italian Renaissance, in a peculiar Sicilian synthesis.

Fillets:Cues for connections in Focus+Context views of graph-like diagrams

We apply fillets-smoothing of sharp angles at the joints-between the connections and nodes of graph-like diagrams. In situations where the graph layout is constrained, e.g. Focus+Context views or views where the coordinates of the nodes are informative, fillets can clarify the relationships considerably without altering the layout. A visual search experiment supports our hypothesis that with fillets it is considerably easier to perceive node-connection structures. We discuss algorithms with different tradeoffs for flexibility and performance for rendering these connections in a single pass using OpenGL.

In recent years, phase retrieval methods recovering the phase of an object from coded diffraction patterns have gained popularity. A numerical phase retrieval method called PhaseLift that recovers the phase of an object from a very limited number of coded diffraction patterns was recently proposed. Performance of PhaseLift has been analyzed for different types and the number of masks modulating an object. We present a unique application of PhaseLift that uses four rotations of a single mask, modulating only the amplitude of an object. Simple method for measuring bilayer system optical parameters

A simple method for measuring bilayer system refractive indexes and thicknesses in the low absorbing part of spectra is demonstrated. The method is based on application of Savitzky - Golay smoothing filters and interference fringe separation in the reflected or transmitted spectra of the bilayer system. The refractive indexes and thicknesses are extracted from the wavelengths corresponding to extreme points in the spectrum.
