Three dimensional (3D) reconstruction and modelling software was evaluated to find a procedure suitable for visualization of small subcellular structures in transmission electron microscope images. The method applied in this study demonstrates bizarre alterations of the structure of synaptic bodies (SBs) in pinealocytes of the guinea-pig pineal gland caused by constant illumination. It can, in general, be used for any 3D reconstruction from serial sections. Objective To apply a fully automated method to quantify the 3D structure of the bony nasolacrimal canal (NLC) from CT scans whereby the size and main morphometric characteristics of the canal can be determined. Sir: We have read the article by Mowlds and Lambros1 with great interest and enthusiasm. The findings of their study show that the nasolabial fold does not improve after cheek injection. By analyzing three-dimensional images of the face before and immediately after cheek injection of high- G′ hyaluronic acid, they demonstrate that the perceived nasolabial fold improvement, reported after cheek injections,2,3 is attributable to overall improvement in facial appearance rather than to actual nasolabial fold improvement.
