A growing body of knowledge has confirmed that the journal peer-review process is an integral part of the scientific publication process and provides demonstrable benefits to journal editors and authors. This study aims to develop doctoral students’ understanding of the journal peer-review process and highlight the most common errors and pitfalls reviewers identify in novice authors’ manuscripts, which could lead to rejection. Belgialainen Liègen (ULg) yliopistokirjasto järjesti jo kolmannen kerran Open access -aiheisen Erasmus-viikon korkeakouluhenkilöstölle. Ohjelma oli rakennettu niin Liègen yliopiston kirjaston asiantuntijoiden kuin osallistujien esityksistä.Esitysten aiheina oli mm. avoin julkiseminen, tekijänoikeudet, aineistonhallinta, avoimen tieteen työkalut ja palvelut. Can we automate expert-based journal rankings? Analysis of the Finnish publication indicator

The publication indicator of the Finnish research funding system is based on a manual ranking of scholarly publication channels. These ranks, which represent the evaluated quality of the channels, are continuously kept up to date and thoroughly reevaluated every four years by groups of nominated scholars belonging to different disciplinary panels. This expert-based decision-making process is informed by available citation-based metrics and other relevant metadata characterizing the publication channels. Tutkimuspalaverissa yhdysvaltalaisten kollegojen kanssa jälleen käydään keskustelua julkaisupaikasta artikkelillemme. Joku kysäisee pian ”What about the Finnish Annals?”, johon vastataan yleisesti positiivisin ja myöntyvin myhäilyin. Kansainvälisesti lehti muistetaankin monilla lempinimillä osittain johtuen sen alkuperäisestä pitkästä nimestä ”Annales Academiæ Scientiarum Fennicæ Series A. I. Mathematica”. Toisaalta vaikkei lehti aivan samalla tasolla olekaan kuin Princetonissa julkaistu johtava lehti Annals of Mathematics, niin on sitä myös pitkään arvostettu erityisesti suomalaisen tutkimuksen vahvuusalueella, analyysissä. nonPeerReviewed
