Processing habits and second language learning: Students’ self‐evaluation of their learning

Abstract This article reports a study of students’ second language learning at the upper stage of the comprehensive school. The aim of the study was to analyse students’ conscious second language learning activity and the kinds of language problems the students themselves recognise. 700 students (14–15 year‐olds), representative of the Swedish‐speaking schools in Finland, answered a questionnaire regarding their learning habits and language problems in Finnish. <p><em>This paper presents the main findings of the second stage of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Lifelong Learning study (2011-2014) on identification of good practices that facilitate adult learning (aged 18-24) engagement in second chance education in evening (shift) schools. Key competences and plurilingual education in the Valencian Region (Spain) : a curricular analysis of Primary Education

The purpose of this work is to study the level of transversality of key competences in Primary Education in the Valencian Community. To this end, an analysis of the Decree 108/2014 cur-rently in effect will be carried out, along with determining the frequency with which each competence is worked on during this stage of education. The data obtained will be interpreted bearing in mind plurilingual programs and, more specifically, the basis of the methodological needs that are pursued in CLIL, the approach to teaching non-linguistic areas through a foreign language. Differentiation in language and gesture use during early bilingual development of hearing children of Deaf parents

Hearing children of Deaf parents simultaneously acquire sign language and spoken language, which have many structural differences and represent two different modalities. We video-recorded eight children every six months between the ages of 12 and 24 months during three different play sessions: with their Deaf parent, with the Deaf parent and a hearing adult, and with a hearing adult alone. Additionally, we collected data on their vocabulary development in both sign language and spoken language. Although scholars have made considerable progress in understanding the dynamics of heritagisation and toponymic politics, research is yet to explore how these may interact with each other. Drawing on a mixed-methods comparative qualitative study, this paper explores the politics of place naming and multilingualism in the context of heritagisation in three multiethnic cities in Romania: Târgu Mureş, Oradea and Baia Mare. Accompanying the rise of the globalized new economy, the heritage tourism industry is expanding ever further into the global peripheries. One such ‘peripheral’ site is Samiland, home of the indigenous language minority Sami people, in the north of Lapland.
